Job Summary:
The Tool Room Coordinator is the leader responsible for the efficient operation and reliability of the Tooling Workshop (Tool Room), including the repair, preventive maintenance, and modification of dies and tools. Additionally, this role encompasses key Manufacturing and Process Engineering responsibilities, ensuring the optimization of the production flow through line balancing, workstation design, process documentation (BOMs, routings), and the implementation of cost improvements.
This position reports directly to: Global Director of Manufacturing Engineering.
And will work from our offices in San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo León, Mexico.
You will create impact by:
- Tooling and Tool Room Management:
- Responsible for the reliability of dies and the availability of tooling for production.
- Coordinate the die preventive maintenance program and its availability.
- Coordinate and control the installation of dies in manual and automatic presses.
- Responsible for the reduction of scrap generated by die adjustments.
- Coordinate the manufacturing of tools for dies and other mechanisms or equipment.
- Coordinate activities of CNC and EDM personnel, ensuring the quality of parts manufactured in their area.
- Global Process Transfer and Implementation (NPI):
- Responsible for the start-up of equipment / machines / processes proceeding from transfer from other plants or corporate.
- Implementation of New assembly lines and products following globally defined engineering guidelines.
- Reviewing and following up on Engineering Change Notices (ECN) and new projects originating from corporate.
- Local Adaptation and Optimization:
- Proposing and executing continuous improvement (Kaizen) projects on the process that adapt to the plant’s local needs and resources.
- Active participation in cost reduction programs by optimizing process flows and times through the reconstruction and/or improvement of workstations.
- Documentation and Local Standardization:
- Preparation and Update of Work Methods, Visual Aids, and documentation related to the Manufacturing process, ensuring they reflect the local execution of the global process.
- Definition of labels and prints for the production area.
- Operational and Logistics Support:
- Preparation and follow-up of BOM’s (Bills of Materials), labels, routings, time, and product costing in the local system.
- Following up on necessary activities for line balancing.
- Updating and/or modification of the plant layout to maximize efficiency in local flow.
- Tooling and Process Maintenance:
- Preparation and modification of designs for tooling/fixtures required for adaptation or improvement at the plant.
- Participation in Problem-Solving Analysis (root cause identification) for in-plant defects, defining corrective actions.
- Supporting production with clarifications or doubts regarding product manufacturing in assembly.
What you will bring to Belden:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, combined with experience in the Tool Room (Tooling).
- Minimum 2 years of experience leading technical and operational personnel.
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficiency in tooling management, preventive maintenance, and die repair.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies (5S, VSM, Kaizen) and Six Sigma.
- Ability to interpret and adapt corporately defined manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) for BOM and routing management.
- Experience in designing and optimizing layouts and workstations.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) for tooling and layout design.
- Advanced English (essential for interacting with global teams and technical documentation).
- Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills to interact with multidisciplinary teams.
- Team leadership, planning, and solid communication skills.
Other Activities:
- Compliance with Safety Regulations and support for the findings of the safety commission.
- Follow-up on Engineering Changes to plant equipment and facilities for the purpose of safety, functionality, operability, and ergonomics.
- Participate in internal or external training and courses for the continuous development of technical skills.
- Attend and participate in LDM (Leader Daily Management) and follow-up meetings for the achievement of plant and area indicators.
- Participation in Physical Inventories.
- Active participation in 5's activities and Improvement Projects.
- Support the preparation and execution of cross-functional internal audits in other areas or company plants.
- Prepare the required documentation and participate in the plant's re-certification under applicable quality standards (ISO 9001, TL 9000, ISO 14000, UL, etc.).
- Ensure that all Manufacturing documentation (procedures, work methods, forms, etc.) is always current and accessible to relevant personnel.
