Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting and finance operations of our Mexico entity. This role reports directly to the FinOps Manager (US) and works closely with local payroll, tax, and accounting service providers as well as global finance stakeholders.
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for payroll administration, accounts payable, tax and statutory compliance, month-end close activities, journal entries, reconciliations, revenue recognition support, and financial reporting while ensuring compliance with Mexican accounting, tax, and labor regulations. This individual will play a key role in strengthening financial controls, ensuring compliance, and supporting the growth of MTech’s global finance operations.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Coordinate and review end-to-end payroll processing with internal teams and external payroll providers.
- Ensure payroll calculations, employee changes, bonuses, vacation accruals, and statutory benefits are processed accurately and timely.
- Support payroll tax compliance, social security (IMSS), INFONAVIT, and other employer obligations.
- Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconciliations.
- Partner closely with Human Resources to ensure payroll data accuracy and compliance.
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursements.
- Maintain vendor records and ensure proper documentation and approvals.
- Prepare payment schedules and support cash management activities.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
Accounting & Month-End Close
- Prepare and post journal entries related to payroll, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, revenue recognition, and other accounting transactions.
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and balance sheet reviews.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities.
- Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with local regulations and corporate policies.
Revenue Recognition & Financial Reporting
- Support revenue recognition activities in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
- Maintain schedules related to deferred revenue, accrued revenue, and contract accounting as applicable.
- Assist with financial reporting and variance analysis for management and global stakeholders.
Tax & Compliance
- Coordinate with external accounting and tax advisors to ensure compliance with Mexican tax regulations.
- Support preparation and review of VAT (IVA), income tax, payroll tax, and other statutory filings.
- Assist with annual audits and government reporting requirements.
- Monitor changes in local accounting, tax, and labor laws and assess business impacts.
Accounts Receivable & Billing (As Needed)
- Support customer invoicing and billing processes as business operations expand within Mexico.
- Monitor collections and assist with accounts receivable reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate customer records and billing documentation.
- Partner with global finance teams to ensure proper billing setup and execution.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for Mexico operations.
- Coordinate with external accountants, payroll providers, tax advisors, and auditors.
- Partner with global Finance, HR, and Operations teams to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.
Process Improvement & Controls
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting accuracy.
- Support documentation of accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Participate in finance transformation and ERP optimization initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 6–9 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within multinational or multi-entity organizations.
- Experience supporting payroll administration and payroll accounting.
- Experience with Accounts Payable and general accounting functions.
- Knowledge of Mexican accounting principles, tax regulations, and labor laws.
- Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 proficiency.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with global teams.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish.
- Intermediate English communication skills (written and verbal).
Skills & Requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Contador Público (CP) certification is a plus.
- Experience with multinational or multi-entity organizations.
- Familiarity with SaaS, technology, or software businesses.
- Experience with revenue recognition concepts.
- Experience working with external payroll and tax service providers.
- Hands-on experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Experience supporting audits and statutory compliance reporting.
