Role purpose
The API Integration Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the connectivity and functionality of our software systems. This position involves designing, developing, and implementing APIs E2E (middleware & backed logic) that enable seamless communication between applications and services. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of API protocols and hands-on experience with integration tools.
The role requires a strong technical background and a deep understanding of RESTful and SOAP APIs. Proficiency in programming languages such as Cobol, Java, Python or JavaScript is essential for building reliable integrations. A solid grasp of data formats such as JSON and XML is crucial for effective data exchange between systems. In addition, experience with API authentication methods, including OAuth and API keys, is required to ensure secure integration.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders are essential. The API Integration Specialist will play a key role in driving innovation and efficiency in integration processes, contributing to the overall success of technology initiatives.
Main activities:

Design, develop, and maintain APIs and integration services to meet business and technical requirements.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and analyze integration needs

Apply appropriate API styles and patterns (REST, SOAP, GraphQL, gRPC) and ensure consistent standards across services.

Monitor API health and performance; troubleshoot incidents and implement root-cause fixes.

Create and update technical documentation for API integrations.

Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams and, where applicable, clients/consumers of the APIs.

Familiarity with Agile methodologies

Knowledge of DevOps tools and practices (desirable)
In this role, the successful candidate is expected to stay up to date with the latest trends in API technologies and continuously improve integration processes. Their expertise will contribute to the efficiency and scalability of software solutions, ensuring systems remain robust and adaptable to evolving business needs.
A detail-oriented mindset is required to ensure accuracy in data handling and integration tasks, along with a proactive attitude towards learning and adapting to new technologies.
Requirements

Backend Programming: Proficiency in languages like Cobol, Java, Python, Node.js, Go, C#, or Ruby for building API services.

API Design Patterns: Deep understanding of REST principles, GraphQL, gRPC, and when to apply each approach.

HTTP Protocol: Thorough knowledge of HTTP methods, status codes, headers, and content negotiation.

Authentication & Authorization: Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys, and implementing secure authentication flows.

Database Management: Skills in both SQL and NoSQL databases, query optimization, and data modeling.

API Documentation: Ability to create clear documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger, API Blueprint, or similar specifications.

Version Control: Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.

Testing: Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and API testing tools like Postman, REST Assured, or Tosca.

API Management: Familiarity with platforms like Kong, Apigee, AWS API Gateway, or Azure API Management, ZOSConnect.

Microservices Architecture: Understanding of distributed systems, service discovery, and inter-service communication.

Performance Optimization: Skills in caching strategies, rate limiting, and optimizing API response times.
Security Best Practices: Knowledge of OWASP API Security, input validation, and preventing common vulnerabilities.
