Role Purpose
As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will serve as a technical and mechanical lead within Corning Optical Communications' Division Engineering organization, driving global automation projects from concept to production floor. You will be the key connection between Corning's internal cross-functional teams and external equipment integrators, ensuring that new automation equipment is delivered on time, within budget, and built to world class standards. This is a high impact role where your engineering expertise will directly shape the manufacturing future of one of the world's most innovative companies.
Key Responsibilities
Lead end-to-end automation projects from design and development through factory acceptance, production start-up, and plant personnel training ensuring equipment meets all performance, quality, and safety standards.
Drive mechanical design excellence by preparing technical specifications, conducting independent design reviews, and ensuring all design packages conform to Corning's global automation standards.
Manage external machine builders and system integrators, evaluating vendor concepts, leading decision analysis, and holding partners accountable to project milestones and technical requirements.
Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians while contributing to manufacturing and technical roadmaps and protecting intellectual property through proper documentation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent engineering experience
Valid passport and ability to travel globally (United States and Poland at a minimum)
Advanced English
Required Skills
5+ years of experience in mechanical design, automation integration, or capital equipment development and deployment
Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo for design, visualization, and systems documentation
Hands-on experience managing external machine builders and system integrators through design, build, and integration phases
Ability to perform machine safety risk assessments and apply statistical data analysis (DOE) to solve process and equipment challenges
Strong communication skills able to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences across organizational levels
