Colossal Academy | Mérida, Yucatán | Hourly Position
Colossal Academy is looking for an exceptional Primary School Teacher who combines strong academics with warmth, curiosity and a genuine respect for children.
We are a small, innovative international school in Mérida inspired by the International Baccalaureate (IB), Reggio Emilia and project-based learning. Our philosophy combines academic rigor with a deeply human approach to education.
We are preparing children not simply for the next grade, but for a rapidly changing world shaped by AI, technology and global change.
The Role
At Colossal, the primary teacher is more than someone who delivers lessons. Teachers are guides, coaches and designers of meaningful learning experiences.
Our students develop strong academic foundations while learning to ask good questions, think independently, communicate their ideas, collaborate with others and apply what they know to real situations.
Learning is interdisciplinary and connected to the real world. A project might bring together science, mathematics, literacy, history, geography, technology and the arts around one meaningful question or challenge.
Students should be reading, writing, researching, discussing, building, experimenting, creating, presenting and reflecting—not simply completing worksheets.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for a teacher who:
- Has experience teaching primary-aged children
- Has strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Maintains high academic expectations while providing warm, individualized support
- Understands that children learn in different ways and at different rates
- Can differentiate instruction based on individual student needs
- Encourages independence, curiosity and intellectual risk-taking
- Is comfortable with inquiry-based, interdisciplinary and project-based learning
- Can guide students through longer-term projects and authentic work
- Values creativity without sacrificing academic rigor
- Builds strong, respectful relationships with students
- Communicates professionally and collaboratively with families and colleagues
- Is reflective, flexible and interested in continuously improving their practice
Experience with International Baccalaureate (IB), Reggio Emilia, Design Thinking, project-based learning or interdisciplinary education is highly valued.
The Kind of Teacher Who Thrives Here
We are looking for teachers who are intellectually curious themselves.
You should be excited when a child's question takes learning somewhere unexpected—and skilled enough to turn that curiosity into rigorous learning.
You should believe that children are capable of doing meaningful work, solving difficult problems and taking increasing responsibility for their own learning.
And you should understand that high expectations and deeply human relationships belong together.
Education for a Different Future
AI is changing what it means to know something and what humans will need to be able to do.
Our students still need strong foundations in reading, writing and mathematics. But they also need to learn how to think deeply, ask better questions, evaluate information, collaborate, create, communicate and solve complex problems.
At Colossal, we are building a school around that future.
Our goal is to develop children who are academically strong, intellectually independent, internationally minded and deeply human.
