Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Seating Engineer with strong expertise in OEM seating systems, leather seat cover installation, and seat trim development. This role is responsible for supporting seat cover fit, finish, craftsmanship, and installation processes while ensuring compliance with OEM design intent, functional requirements, safety standards, and manufacturing best practices.
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of complete seat systems, including seat structures, foam, trim covers, attachment methods, airbag integration, ergonomics, and production assembly processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development and installation of leather seat covers for OEM and aftermarket seating programs.
- Ensure seat cover installation meets OEM engineering standards, craftsmanship targets, and manufacturing requirements.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and customers to achieve optimal fit, finish, and functionality.
- Review seat cover patterns, sew lines, attachment methods, and material performance to ensure manufacturability and appearance quality.
- Validate seat cover fit to foam and seat structures, minimizing wrinkles, looseness, puckering, and other aesthetic defects.
- Develop and support installation procedures, work instructions, and process standards.
- Investigate and resolve trim fit, craftsmanship, and assembly issues during prototype, validation, and production builds.
- Provide technical support related to installation methods, production quality concerns, and corrective actions.
- Ensure compatibility of seat covers with:
- Side airbags
- Seat heating and ventilation systems
- Occupant detection sensors
- Seat mechanisms
- Durability and performance requirements
- Participate in prototype builds, DV/PV activities, craftsmanship evaluations, and production launches.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on trim installation efficiency, quality, and craftsmanship.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OEM standards, safety requirements, and validation processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in OEM or Tier 1 automotive seating systems.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Seat trim systems (mechanical, electrical, and electronic interfaces)
- Leather seat cover installation and performance
- Attachment methods (hog rings, J-clips, retainers, listing wires, etc.)
- Craftsmanship, fit, and finish standards
- Familiarity with OEM seat design and functional requirements.
- Experience supporting prototype builds, validation activities, and production launches.
- Knowledge of automotive manufacturing and assembly processes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data.
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
