Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Metrology Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will work under the guidance of the Reliability & Quality Lab Manager, collaborating with global metrology labs to enhance our incoming inspection measurement methodologies, provide training, and manage equipment. Performs advanced measurement development initiatives supporting corporate directives to meet market requirements (key interaction with principal engineers, engineering managers, and directors). Measurement development initiatives will include but not be limited to: developing corporate measurement technology plans, analysis, determining implications of measurement uncertainty, influencing internal and external projects for new technologies and novel applications to support Shure needs.
Responsibilities:
Representative Duties:

Assist in setting the direction in dimensional metrology and teach applicable engineering principles in support of Shure’s current and future products and processes.

Responsible to develop and standardize measurement methodologies, and operator training.

Assess metrology equipment capabilities as well as procure and implement new equipment as needed.

Identifies technology gaps and develop technology plans to support the current and future specification needs.

Apply advanced concepts and understanding of mathematical definitions of GD&T (e.g., ASME Y14.5.1) and their implications to support design intent (of product, tooling, machine)

Utilize expertise to support optimum design of fixturing, tooling, machines, sensors, and measurement systems through interaction and working relationships with Design Engineering (product and machine)

Influence the supplier base by evaluating and aligning supplier measurement capabilities as they relate to our products requirements.

Develop and maintain expertise standing in the field of dimensional metrology through networking, research, and continuous education.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field. Graduate coursework is desirable.

English Proficiency 80%

Intermediate knowledge and experience in applying design standards including ASME Y14.5, ISO and other National, International, and Industrial standards

General knowledge of dimensional metrology and/or an applied technology in that field.

Able to interpret, test and establish measurement methods of 1, 2 and 3 dimensional applications using contact and non-contact computer controlled CMM’s

Understanding of measurement applications, sampling effects and weighted distribution effects on measurement algorithms.

Ability to apply advanced concepts and understanding of mathematical concepts (e.g., significant experience training/mentoring engineers in applying concepts in ASME Y14.5.1).

Experience should exist in the following areas:

Use and specification of precision measurement equipment in a metrology environment,

Development and/or application of standards,
-
Working with cross-functional teams including customers and/or suppliers,
-
Technical writing of specifications and procedures
- Preferred: ASME Certified Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing Professional, Senior level.
- Able to use professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters.
