As Automation and Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in improving plant reliability, productivity, and safety through automation and process control technologies. You will serve as the site's subject matter expert for process control and Operational Technology (OT), acting as a key link between local and regional teams.
This is a hands-on position where you will support and improve control systems, lead automation initiatives, and contribute to capital projects. You will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and global automation teams to ensure the site's systems remain reliable, efficient, and aligned with industry best practices.
Location: Los Reyes La Paz, State of Mexico (Mexico City Area)

Support and optimize the site's Process Control Systems (PCS), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and data historian platforms
Own and improve Siemens-based control systems across the plant
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to PLCs, control logic, automation hardware, and industrial networks
Perform system maintenance activities including backups, software updates, hardware upgrades, and lifecycle management
Implement programming and configuration changes to improve plant performance, reliability, and operational efficiency
Act as the site's process control and automation expert, providing technical guidance and support to local teams
Support automation and Operational Technology (OT) projects from planning through execution
Define technical requirements and support project scope development
Review technical solutions, vendor proposals, and project deliverables
Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and regional automation teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives
Develop and maintain the site's control system lifecycle strategy to ensure long-term reliability and sustainability
Support alarm management processes, alarm rationalization activities, and system optimization efforts
Maintain SIS systems and coordinate required Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) proof testing activities
Ensure systems comply with applicable safety standards, engineering guidelines, and industry best practices
Support capital projects and automation upgrades across the site
Participate in on-call support as needed to help minimize production downtime and maximize plant performance
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field
Equivalent hands-on experience in industrial automation and process controls may also be considered
At least 5 years of experience in process control, automation, or controls engineering within manufacturing or process industries
Strong hands-on experience with industrial control systems and automation technologies
Experience with Siemens PLCs, Simatic Manager, and related controller software
Experience designing, implementing, and supporting batch and continuous process control systems
Strong troubleshooting skills involving both control logic and hardware
Knowledge of PID control strategies and process optimization techniques
Experience supporting automation, controls, or Operational Technology (OT) projects
Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and functions
Full professional fluency in both English and Spanish
Preferred Qualifications
Experience within the chemical, specialty chemical, refining, or similar process industries
Exposure to Siemens control systems
Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
Familiarity with HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL methodologies
Experience with Statistical Process Control and alarm rationalization
Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC UA, DeviceNet, and ControlNet
Familiarity with ISA standards, plant safety systems, and industry best practices
Working knowledge of SAP PM
This is a permanent, full-time, fully on-site role 5 days/week at our plant in Los Reyes (La Paz).
