The NPI Quality Assurance Engineer serves as the strategic lead for quality during the New Product Introduction phase. This role is responsible for bridging the gap between design and mass production, ensuring that all new products and processes are robust, compliant with IATF 16949 standards, and fully capable of meeting customer specifications from the first prototype to the Start of Production (SOP).
Key Responsibilities
- NPI Quality Gatekeeper: Drive the quality roadmap for all new projects, ensuring strict adherence to the NPI timeline and project milestones.
- Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP): Lead the development and execution of APQP phases, ensuring that quality is engineered into the process from day one.
- PPAP Excellence: Orchestrate the preparation and submission of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) packages, ensuring flawless approval from automotive OEMs.
- Risk Management (FMEA): Facilitate and update PFMEAs to proactively identify potential failure modes and implement robust preventive controls.
- Process Capability and Validation: Execute MSA (Measurement Systems Analysis) and perform Cp/Cpk studies to validate that production processes are stable and capable.
- Control Plan Development: Design and implement comprehensive Control Plans and inspection standards for new lines.
- Supplier Quality Collaboration: Work closely with the supply chain team to ensure that incoming components for new products meet Nidec’s rigorous standards.
- Customer Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for customer quality engineers during the launch phase, managing technical requirements and audits.
Required Qualifications and Technical Expertise
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Mechatronics, or related).
- Language: Advanced English (Bilingual) – Professional fluency is required for global reporting and customer interaction.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in Quality Engineering within the Automotive Industry.
- Mandatory Experience: Minimum of 3 years of dedicated experience in NPI (New Product Introduction).
- Core Tools Expertise: Mastery of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong command of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Standards: In-depth knowledge of IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards.
- Metrology: Experience with systems such as CMM, Vision Systems, and precision hand tools.
- Software: Proficiency in Statistical Software (e.g., Minitab) and MS Office.
- Soft Skills: High-level analytical problem-solving (8D, 5 Whys), exceptional communication, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams under pressure.
