ABOUT THE DATA GOVERNANCE TEAM
The Data Governance team provides enterprise-wide oversight and enablement to ensure data is properly classified, documented, trusted, secure, and used responsibly.
ABOUT YOU
You are a senior data engineer who believes governance is a core engineering responsibility. You understand that scalable analytics, AI, and compliance depend on strong foundations: clear ownership, reliable metadata, lineage, quality controls, access discipline, and cost transparency.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Governance Enablement & Automation
- Design, build, and maintain scalable automated frameworks that enforce data governance policies and standards.
- Embed governance controls into data pipelines, platforms, and workflows.
- Identify governance gaps and deliver AI-enabled automated solutions.
Metadata, Cataloging & Lineage
- Lead implementation and enforcement of enterprise metadata standards.
- Lead automated lineage capture, validation, and reporting.
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert for metadata, cataloging, and lineage capabilities.
Data Classification & Sensitive Data Controls
- Design and refine automated sensitive data detection and classification workflows.
- Validate scan results and ensure classifications are applied consistently.
- Partner with Privacy and Security teams to operationalize governance controls.
Access Controls & Cost Transparency
- Support implementation and auditing of RBAC and least-privilege standards.
- Design and maintain governance reporting.
- Improve cloud cost accountability through tagging and ownership alignment.
Technical Leadership & Team Collaboration
- Establish engineering standards and governance patterns.
- Mentor engineers through reviews and design guidance.
- Lead complex initiatives end-to-end.
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience (6–8+ years).
- Advanced experience with Python.
- Strong expertise in SQL and large datasets.
- Experience with cloud data pipelines, Airflow, dbt, or similar tools.
- Experience implementing governance capabilities across cloud environments.
- Proficiency with Git/GitHub, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Deep understanding of metadata, lineage, data quality, classification, access controls, and ownership.
Preferred / Nice to Have
- Experience with Dataplex, Data Catalog, DLP, BigID, or similar tools.
- Exposure to CCPA, HIPAA, and other privacy frameworks.
- Experience defining governance standards at enterprise scale.
- Prior mentoring or technical leadership experience.
