JOB SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer / Quality Engineer (ME/QE) is focused on manufacturing process improvement and production support. Collaborating closely with a cross-functional team at A-dec Newberg and CaliBaja, they ensure root causes of production stoppages and constraints are well understood and efficiently resolved. The ME/QE ensures production processes are adequately controlled in compliance with applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards. This includes insuring processes meet capacity and capability requirements and performing all necessary visual and dimensional inspection of both incoming and internally produced parts (and assemblies) to control nonconformance events.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manufacturing Engineering Focus
· Provides technical support and efficient escalation to resolve a wide variety of production issues as they arise.
· Establish strong cross-functional relationships with key points of contact at A-dec to efficiently escalate and resolve disruptions and potential line down situations. Uses data analytics to assess risk and inform decision-making.
· Once confirmed, collaborates with appropriate subject matter experts to triage and execute appropriate corrective action(s) for nonconforming parts or processes.
· Ensures manufacturing work instructions are complete, consistently utilized, and maintained/improved.
· Leads continuous improvement (CI) efforts to optimize the safety, cost, quality, and delivery performance of manufacturing processes by reducing waste and variability.
· Collects and analyzes internal and external quality data to identify and execute process improvements.
· Completes assigned tasks in support of new product introduction (NPI). Tasks may include design reviews, tool/fixture planning, cell design and validation, and inspection methodology and process setup.
Quality Engineering Focus
· Supports appropriate quality control methods for inspection, testing, and process monitoring.
· Confirms that dimensions, finish type, and finish appearance of parts meet specifications on A-dec drawings and are within quality standards.
· Investigates product and part issues to determine root cause and develop corrective actions.
· Interacts with CAD models and Engineering drawings, utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) when necessary, to perform the intended inspections.
· Performs inspection sampling and makes acceptance/rejection decisions per guidelines, maintains thorough and detailed records of all inspection history in an electronic history database, and communicates reject or quality problems to CaliBaja and A-dec Supplier Quality Engineering and manufacturing staff in accordance with established procedures.
· Responsible for the proper care and storage of precision measuring tools, equipment and submits tool requirements to the appropriate testing and calibration department for repairs and annual calibration.
· Evaluates measuring requirements and designs/assists in designing inspection fixtures/gages when necessary or beneficial.
· May perform first article inspections to evaluate suppliers’ dimensional accuracy on initial runs.
· May perform some material handling duties and assist others with inspection procedures and techniques.
