MAJOR FUNCTION
Under minimal supervision, the R&D Engineer designs and develops wire harnesses and interconnects for various low voltage systems. Responsibilities also include circuit analysis, wiring diagrams and assists in the production of detailed schematics and ladder diagrams, has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within wire harness design. This position will design harness and interconnects by analyzing the customer requirements of the overall system and determine which requirements have a low voltage component and perform power analysis. General tasks typically include work with other engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical and technical partners, to ensure that the harness design will accomplish the design goals for a particular product or system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design wire harnesses and interconnects for cleaning machines, circuit boards, controllers etc
- Design or maintain wiring diagrams and provide assistance to production to implement correct routing
- Create parts in the Creo component library for new components
- Update and maintain Creo cabling and schematics for continuation support
- Elicit project requirements, define technical requirements and drive harness design
- Ability to support multiple new and continuation projects and understand priorities to meet project deadlines.
- Estimate required effort; develop schedules, work plans and set priorities for the electrical harness design.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to ensure harness design is interpreted and done correctly
- Participate in the development of test requirements and test plans with responsibility for the electrical harness systems and carry out functional, operational, and reliability testing
- Responsibility for failure analysis of control system components/assemblies for in-line or field failures related to cabling.
- Assists with the writing and development of technical reports, charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system’s operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations for consideration in design development
- Assists and provides technical support as direct by engineers for manufacturing assembly line and other departments within the company where needed
- Develops and documents necessary information for marketing, operations, service and technical publications.
