Work individually or with cross-functional teams on new and existing products to develop parts cost optimization programs. This may be accomplished through techniques such as design analysis, material substitution or standardization, part count reduction, design simplification, manufacturing process simplification or other proven cost optimization techniques.
Implement improvements for cost optimization, cycle time reduction initiatives with suppliers, and process improvements. Approve new design or recommend modifications based on productivity, cost, and component technology factors.
Work closely with suppliers in establishing relationships and participate in / lead supplier contract negotiations. Establish supplier programs to investigate new technologies or processes that will yield better quality/cost position for STERIS.
Analyse product design to determine conformance to design selection criteria, use of standardized parts and equipment, and design-to-cost ratio. Perform design trade-off for cost and manufacturing; make/buy decision involving components to products and processes.
Provide regular updates and reports to manager and purchasing staff on cost improvements.
Interface as a liaison between purchasing and engineering, manufacturing, accounting, and other departments to ensure continuity and effectiveness of addressing cost improvement initiatives.
