Role Purpose: Position is at the very center of a fast-paced compliance environment. Person should possess an in-depth knowledge of all Hours of Service (HOS) rules and the ability to professionally communicate with driver employees and Independent Contractors while maintaining a positive team oriented attitude. Person must be organized and engaged with the team.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Log Specialist provides outstanding service acting as the primary point of contact for our current drivers and contractors. Log Specialists are responsible for educating and retraining drivers who are in non-compliance with Federal, State, and Local Laws, and Company Policies relating to Hours of Service Rules. The primary goal is to protect the organization, and its drivers, from legal compliance risk through proper and thorough management of non-compliant drivers via education and/or discipline, up to and including termination of employment.
A person in this position performs the following functions:
- Expertly manage and make unilateral decisions related to reeducation and discipline of non-compliant drivers, including termination of employment.
- Seamlessly fill in as acting Compliance Manager during manager’s absence, such as: Handling internal employee mentoring, management and discipline, managing the automated call system, attending meetings, providing HOS guidance to other internal and external agencies, etc.
- Adeptly evaluate drivers, both in-person and via phone, to provide Hours of Service and fatigue related guidance.
- Skillfully utilize Reasonable Suspicion Training to effectively identify alcohol or drug impaired employees.
- Mentor and educate both drivers and coworkers on detailed complexities of Federal Hours of Service logging rules and Electronic Logging Devices.
- Professionally handle high volume calls from current C.R. England driver employees and Independent Contractors regarding general and specific HOS questions, re-education, discipline, and additional driver support issues.
- Thoroughly and efficiently gather employee information, assess and provide support.
- Ability to utilize and navigate through multiple computer systems simultaneously.
- Be dependable and meet all attendance requirements.
- Resolve driver issues via one call resolution guidelines and/or escalated process.
- Ability to accept and embrace changes within the Logs Department.
- Must manage time effectively with minimum supervision

Education and Experience:
- 4-year College Degree strongly preferred.
- One or more years of experience in the transportation industry is preferred, ideally in a compliance environment.
- Stable work history.
- Strong detail orientation and excellent communication/listening skills.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
- Demonstrates passion for excellence with respect to treating and caring for driver employees.
- Highly developed sense of integrity and commitment to driver satisfaction.
