Role Summary
This role is part of the Strategic Projects Team, responsible for identifying and leading high‑impact strategic projects that align with business objectives, market trends, and technological developments. The position works cross‑functionally to evaluate risks and opportunities related to product performance, mechanical integrity, and regulatory compliance. The engineer ensures that solutions meet or exceed applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., ASHRAE, CTI, UL, AHRI, ASME, IBC) as well as internal standards.
The role collaborates closely with sales engineers to support technically complex bids and customer engagements. It translates customer requirements and market needs into clear, actionable engineering deliverables and project scopes. The position acts as a liaison between commercial and technical teams to ensure accurate interpretation of specifications related to thermal performance, airflow, pressure drop, materials, ancillary components, construction methodologies, and regulatory compliance.
The engineer coordinates with R&D, quality, and regulatory teams to ensure adherence to product safety, energy efficiency standards, and environmental regulations. In addition, the role helps define project timelines (in collaboration with project management), resource requirements, and milestones, and manages execution to ensure on‑time delivery. The position provides clear and regular communication to senior leadership on project status, key risks, and strategic value.
Scope of Responsibility
- This role will participate in the end-to-end workflow to ensure suitably designed / engineered products, and the compliance thereof:
Intake of request feasibility review specification supplier/material selection production coordination with PMO prototype quality checks- delivery documentation/closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the end‑to‑end execution of strategic projects and custom‑engineered products, ensuring smooth handoffs from request through production completion.
- Review incoming requests and define technical requirements, scope, timelines, and risks.
- Lead selection activities (products, materials, components, accessories), ensuring suitability, availability, and compliance.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including specifications and drawings (as applicable), and assist with BOMs and process instructions.
- Coordinate with PMO to plan production runs, confirm process capability, and ensure readiness (materials, tooling, capacity).
- Follow up with PMO, production, and suppliers to track progress, resolve issues, and keep stakeholders informed.
- Ensure quality requirements are met through inspections, test plans (as needed), and root‑cause analysis and corrective actions for nonconformities.
- Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement of standard workflows for custom projects.
- Analyze and resolve technical issues related to products within the assigned scope of responsibility.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to standardize recurring custom products into the standard model range or to define them within a configurable specification range for handover to the application engineering team.
- Identify Güntner specifications and documentation requiring review and support the completion of updates and improvements.
- Review warranty cases and document key findings to support ongoing risk assessment and preventive actions.
- Align with Design and Construction on agreed baselines and standards that simplify production and reduce variability.
- Develop competitive benchmarks (products, features, performance, lead time, quality approach) to support market positioning and internal improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience managing projects or orders from concept/specification through production completion.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production flow.
- Demonstrated ability to create clear technical specifications and documentation.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in refrigeration and HVAC/R.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and strong attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Knowledge of HVAC/R industry standards and regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., AHRI, ASHRAE, CTI, ISO, ASME), and strong knowledge of thermodynamics.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with custom‑engineered products, make‑to‑order environments, and/or strategic project requests.
- Experience coordinating suppliers (materials, components, finishing vendors).
- Familiarity with quality tools such as FMEA, control plans, and corrective action methodologies.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems.
