Sepro Mexico | El Marqués, Querétaro
About Sepro
Sepro is a global leader in robotic automation for the plastic injection molding industry. As Sepro Mexico continues to grow, we are building stronger local automation engineering capability to support projects across Mexico and North America.
We are looking for an experienced Automation Project Engineer – Mechanical to help support this growth and play an important role in developing the technical foundation of our automation department in Mexico.
About the Role
This is not a basic mechanical design position. We are looking for someone who can do more than complete assigned drawings. This role requires a hands-on, practical mechanical engineer who can design automation equipment, support projects, work with vendors, solve technical problems, and help build a scalable engineering process.
The Automation Project Engineer – Mechanical will support the design, engineering, sourcing, technical evaluation, assembly, testing, and implementation of robotic automation projects. This person will also help determine what work can be handled locally in Mexico, what should be supported by Sepro America, Sepro China, or outside vendors, and what capabilities need to be developed as the department grows.
This position will work closely with Sepro America engineering, Sepro Mexico service, Sepro China, local vendors, customers, purchasing, sales, and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and support standard and custom robotic automation projects.
- Create mechanical layouts, work cell layouts, guarding concepts, risers, spacers, brackets, custom assemblies, and other automation-related equipment.
- Prepare assembly drawings, detail drawings, bills of materials, and supporting manufacturing documentation.
- Support projects from purchase order through customer installation.
- Participate in internal and customer design reviews.
- Support component selection, vendor sourcing, purchasing, and technical supplier discussions.
- Work with local vendors in Mexico for machining, fabrication, guarding, installation support, electrical panel support, and other automation needs.
- Provide engineering support during assembly, testing, installation, commissioning, and project follow-up.
- Work with service and assembly teams to improve designs and make equipment easier to build, install, maintain, and support.
- Help define engineering standards, design templates, drawing standards, BOM practices, project review formats, and technical checklists.
- Help evaluate whether specific projects or portions of projects should be handled by Sepro Mexico, Sepro America, Sepro China, or outside suppliers.
- Support knowledge transfer from Sepro America and Sepro China into the Mexico team.
- Help mentor future engineers, technicians, designers, or vendors as the department grows.
What We Are Looking For
- Strong experience in mechanical design for automation, robotics, machinery, custom equipment, or manufacturing systems.
- Practical engineering judgment and the ability to make sound technical decisions.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
- Strong understanding of machine design, tolerancing, manufacturing methods, fabrication, machining, welding, sheet metal, purchased components, and assembly methods.
- Experience creating drawings and BOMs that can be used by purchasing, fabrication, assembly, service, and vendors.
- Strong SolidWorks experience or equivalent 3D CAD experience.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work directly with customers, vendors, technicians, purchasing, sales, engineering, and management.
- Ability to identify gaps in tools, documentation, supplier support, technical capability, and process.
- Willingness to help build a department, not just fill a defined engineering position.
Preferred Experience
- Industrial automation or robotic systems.
- Injection molding automation.
- EOAT, guarding, conveyors, fixtures, risers, spacers, work cells, pneumatic systems, and electric actuators.
- Custom machinery or special equipment design.
- Experience evaluating vendors and supplier capability.
- Ability to estimate technical complexity, design effort, manufacturing effort, and project risk.
- Basic understanding of electrical and controls interfaces, even though the primary responsibility is mechanical.
