About the Role
This is a fully remote, independent contractor position open to candidates based in Mexico. You will work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, on U.S. Mountain Time, and you will be paid in USD.
The Immigration Legal Assistant is a foundational, client-facing and backend role that supports case managers and attorneys in moving immigration cases forward efficiently, accurately, and compassionately. You will gain hands-on experience across family-based and humanitarian immigration matters — work that is both deeply educational and genuinely rewarding.
This is not a salaried employee position. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own taxes and benefits. Compensation is based on experience and includes performance-based incentive pay.
What You Will Do
- Respond to client requests for information and communication in a timely, professional manner
- Conduct legal research and produce clear, accurate written work product
- Prepare, fill out, and assemble immigration application forms and packets
- Provide legal support to attorneys and team members across active and pending cases
- Collaborate on case lists, deadlines, milestones, and case progress notes
- Actively engage with attorneys and legal staff on case processes and legal questions
Qualifications
- Advanced written and spoken English and Spanish — this is a hard requirement
- Strong persuasive writing and editing skills, including the ability to construct and evaluate legal arguments
- An analytical mindset and a rigorous approach to evaluating evidence
- High attention to detail, strong time management, and organizational discipline
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced remote environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with learning new technology tools
- Windows computer highly preferred
Contractor Terms
- This is an independent contractor position, not an employee role
- You are responsible for your own taxes under Mexican law
- No U.S. employee benefits are provided
- Performance-based quarterly bonuses are available firm-wide
- A legally structured Rest Period Allowance is included in your compensation
- You will be required to sign an independent contractor agreement prior to starting
- Base compensation is determined by experience and paid in USD
