Role Overview
The Email & SMS Marketing Specialist is responsible for executing and optimizing all lifecycle marketing efforts across email and SMS. This role owns campaign and flow execution from concept through deployment, working closely with the design and paid media teams to drive revenue, retention, and customer engagement. All work will be performed for ecommerce clients and limited service based businesses.
This person must be both creative and analytical with the ability to write compelling copy, guide creative direction, build high-performing campaigns in Klaviyo, and continuously improve performance based on data.
Core Responsibilities
1. Campaign Execution
- Plan, build, and deploy email and SMS campaigns in Klaviyo/Postscripts/Shopify/Review platforms/Rewards platforms.
- Develop campaign concepts including messaging angles, offers, and timing
- Write clear, conversion-focused copy for emails and SMS
- Implement designs provided by the design team into fully functional emails
- QA all campaigns across devices and inboxes before launch
2. Creative Direction & Team Collaboration
- Provide clear direction to the design team on email/SMS creative for campaigns and flows
- Brief designers on layout, messaging hierarchy, and conversion goals
- Review and provide feedback on designs to ensure alignment with performance goals
- Collaborate with paid media and creative teams to align messaging across channels
3. Flow Development & Optimization
- Build and manage automated flows (welcome, abandoned cart, browse abandonment, post-purchase, winback, etc.)
- Continuously optimize flows for conversion, revenue, and engagement
- Identify gaps in lifecycle marketing and recommend new flows
4. Segmentation & List Management
- Create and manage audience segments based on behavior, purchase history, and engagement
- Maintain list health (cleaning, suppression, engagement management)
- Develop targeted messaging strategies for different customer cohorts
5. Shopify & On-Site Integration
- Work within Shopify to understand customer data, product launches, and promotions
- Set up and optimize pop-ups, forms, and lead capture experiences
- Ensure proper integration between Shopify and Klaviyo (events, data syncing, tracking)
6. Project & Task Management
- Create clear internal tasks for design and development teams based on campaign and flow needs
- Translate marketing strategy into actionable tasks with clear deadlines and deliverables
- Ensure all required assets and dependencies are accounted for prior to launch
- Coordinate timelines to ensure campaigns and flows are launched on schedule
7. Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Monitor key KPIs: revenue, open rate, CTR, conversion rate, unsubscribe rate
- Report on campaign and flow performance weekly and monthly
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations based on data
- Run A/B tests on subject lines, creative, offers, and timing
Bonus (Nice to Have)
- Ability to design emails (Figma or similar)
- Experience with SMS compliance and deliverability best practices
- Familiarity with other platforms (Postscript, Attentive, etc.)
Requirements
- 3+ years experience in email and/or SMS marketing (eCommerce preferred)
- Strong experience with Klaviyo
- Strong copywriting skills (direct response focused)
- Experience working with Shopify brands
- Detail-oriented with strong QA and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and deadlines
