Reporting to the Quality Manager, the NPI Quality Engineer is responsible for working in collaboration with the NPI, Engineering, and Operations teams to own quality planning and execution for new product programs involving high-speed cable assemblies and backplane systems — ensuring product, process, supplier, and test risks are controlled from design transfer through EVT, DVT, PVT, production launch, and stable mass production.
Responsibilities:
Own NPI quality deliverables and ensure risks are identified, controlled, and closed before each phase-gate and customer qualification milestone.
Develop and maintain quality plans, DFMEA/PFMEA linkage, control plans, inspection standards, and acceptance criteria for each NPI phase.
Coordinate dimensional, mechanical, electrical, environmental, and reliability qualification activities, including test plans, sample sizes, reports, and deviation approvals.
Partner with Signal Integrity and Test Engineering to validate high-speed test methods (BERT, PRBS, TDR, insertion loss, return loss, crosstalk), tester correlation, limit definition, golden-sample control, MSA, and Gauge R&R.
Provide quality leadership during prototype, qualification, pilot, and ramp builds, establishing enhanced inspection and safe-launch controls.
Lead containment, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, DOE, and statistical methods, including effectiveness verification and lessons learned.
Support supplier qualification, incoming inspection plans, first-article approval, and supplier corrective actions for critical components.
Track NPI yield, defect rate, scrap, customer escapes, and process capability through standardized dashboards; support customer audits and quality reviews.
Prepare status reports and present quality updates to leadership.
Bachelor's degree in Quality, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum of 4 years of quality engineering experience in electronics, connectors, cable assemblies, semiconductor, automotive, or another high-volume manufacturing environment.
Proven experience supporting NPI, product qualification, manufacturing transfer, and production ramp.
Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, process validation, SPC, MSA, and Gauge R&R.
Proven problem-solving capability using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, Pareto analysis, DOE, and CAPA.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Minitab and Power BI are a plus.
Results-oriented with a focus on defect reduction and on-time launch.
Leadership and cross-functional influencing skills.
Advanced English and excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.
