Evaluates transportation costs, monitors market trends, and develops competitive freight rates. Collaborate with sales, procurement, and operations teams to optimize pricing models, negotiate contracts with carriers, and respond to Requests for Quotation (RFQs) to ensure maximum profitability and service efficiency.
Core Responsibilities
- Rate Analysis: Evaluate carrier rates, fuel surcharges, and operating costs across various transport modes (air, ocean, rail, truckload).
- Bid & RFQ Management: Prepare, review, and submit accurate freight quotations and bids in response to customer inquiries.
- Vendor Negotiations: Negotiate buying and selling rates with carriers, 3PL providers, and international agents.
- Market Monitoring: Stay updated on industry trends, competitor pricing, and supply chain dynamics to maintain a competitive edge.
- Data Management: Maintain pricing databases and create reports regarding cost analysis and margin performance.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Typically requires 2–4+ years in freight forwarding, supply chain, or a related transportation field.
- Analytical Skills: Strong mathematical abilities to measure currency, weight, volume, and distance. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analytics.
- Industry Knowledge: Understanding of transportation tariffs, INCOTERMS, and global supply chain regulations.
- Soft Skills: Excellent negotiation, written communication, and problem-solving skills to bridge the gap between sales needs and operations.
