About EcoBuild
EcoBuild is a growing U.S.-based construction and home-services company serving residential, commercial, and public-sector projects.
We work across multiple construction trades and are expanding our commercial and government bidding capabilities. We are looking for an experienced estimator who can bring accuracy, organization, and strong follow-through to the bidding process.
About the Role
We are hiring a Commercial & Government Estimator with strong general construction estimating experience and direct experience with U.S. government or public-sector bids.
This is not a basic takeoff-only position.
You will review bid opportunities, prepare estimates, coordinate pricing, identify submission requirements, and help make sure bids are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
What You’ll Do
- Review commercial and government bid opportunities
- Read plans, specifications, RFPs, RFQs, ITBs, and bid documents
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates
- Estimate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor costs, overhead, and profit
- Request and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Review addenda, RFIs, alternates, allowances, and scope changes
- Identify scope gaps, missing information, and bid risks
- Track bid deadlines and required submission documents
- Assist with government forms, certifications, acknowledgments, and compliance requirements
- Support bid bonds, insurance requirements, and prequalification documents
- Prepare and organize complete bid packages
- Assist with electronic submissions through government and commercial procurement portals
- Track active, submitted, awarded, and lost bids
- Support contract review and project handoff after award
- Maintain organized estimating files, bid trackers, and checklists
Required Experience
- 3+ years of construction estimating experience
- Experience estimating commercial construction projects
- Experience with U.S. government or public-sector bidding
- Ability to read construction drawings and specifications
- Strong quantity takeoff and estimating skills
- Experience working with subcontractor and supplier quotes
- Understanding of bid deadlines, addenda, RFIs, and submission requirements
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills
- Strong written and spoken English
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple bid deadlines
- Availability to work full-time during Chicago business hours
Preferred Experience
Experience with any of the following is a strong advantage:
- Federal, state, municipal, school, or other public-sector projects
- SAM.gov or similar government procurement platforms
- Prevailing wage or Davis-Bacon requirements
- Bid bonds, performance bonds, and payment bonds
- Bluebeam, PlanSwift, BuildingConnected, Procore, PlanHub, or similar software
- HVAC, roofing, insulation, mechanical, electrical, remodeling, or general construction
- Preparing bids from initial review through final submission
What We’re Looking For
We are not looking for someone who only performs takeoffs.
We need an estimator who understands the full bid process and can identify:
- What needs to be estimated
- What documents are required
- What information is missing
- What pricing needs to be collected
- What deadlines must be met
- What could disqualify the bid
- What must be completed before submission
Strong follow-through is just as important as estimating ability.
A good estimate is useless if a bid is rejected because a required document, addendum, acknowledgment, or deadline was missed.
Schedule
Full-Time Remote
You must be available to work during Chicago time business hours.
The position requires consistent availability during the U.S. workday and occasional flexibility around important bid deadlines.
