Job Summary
The (Mechanical) Engineering Manager is responsible for managing a team of mechanical engineers, overseeing the design and development of mechanical systems and components. This role ensures the implementation of engineering strategies and influences technical practices.
This job profile is intended for People Managers of more senior expert-level employees (P20–P40, M20).
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce a zero-incident safety culture.
- Establish a high-performance maintenance culture focused on safety, reliability, continuous improvement, and accountability.
- Define departmental objectives, KPIs, staffing plans, and training programs.
- Manage departmental budgets, capital expenditures, and maintenance expenditures.
- Implement Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies.
- Analyze equipment failures and drive root cause corrective actions.
- Monitor and improve equipment uptime, MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures), and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair).
- Manage spare parts inventory and critical asset strategies.
- Ensure compliance with applicable pressure equipment regulations and standards.
- Oversee maintenance of medium-voltage and low-voltage electrical distribution systems.
- Ensure proper maintenance of transformers, switchgear, substations, generators, and power quality equipment.
- Develop electrical safety programs including lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc-flash protection, and energized work controls.
- Coordinate electrical system upgrades and power reliability initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering
- English
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum 4 years in a maintenance leadership or management role.
- Demonstrated experience managing:
- CNC machining equipment
- Medium-voltage electrical systems
- Industrial automation and controls
- Large-scale manufacturing facilities
Technical Knowledge
- CNC machine maintenance and machine tool technologies
- Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Pressure vessels and compressed air systems
- Electrical distribution systems up to medium voltage
- PLC programming and troubleshooting
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Predictive maintenance technologies
- Thermography
- CMMS platforms (SAP PM, Maximo, Maintenance Connection, Infor EAM, etc.)
- Lean Manufacturing and TPM methodologies
