The Stamping Projects Engineer has a wide variety of levels of responsibility. The responsibilities cover all the aspects but not limited to the Stamping Project Start activities through achieving all the Project Launch Goals.
Productivity:
Should be able to understand and calculate pressloads
Should be able to understand the basic concepts of the press equipment related to die set assignments.
Should be able to understand the basic stamping concepts of product design.
Should be able to understand the basic concepts of the die and automation design.
Lead, coordinate and support Stamping Die sets off-load and/or in-source activities by discussing strategies with Corporate Stamping and the Stamping Plant Management. Make business decisions based on studies of their respective press load.
Quality of Stamping Dies and Stamping Parts:
Should be able to lead and participate in stamping product feasibility activities
Should be able to lead and participate in stamping process feasibility activities
Should be able to understand the stamping and vehicle GD&T
Should be able to lead and participate in Stamping surface quality and dimensional quality activities
Should be able to lead and participate in die design and automation design buyoffs.
Should be able to lead and participate in Die Construction and Panel buyoff
Lead, coordinate and participate with the body-shop dimensional quality team on all phases until the stamping parts achieve the Dimensional quality goals.
Lead, coordinate and participate with the Final Quality Audit team on all phases until the stamping parts achieve the Surface quality goals.
Should be able to apply quality tools and/or program management tools for problem resolution.
Timing of: Stamping Dies, Product Changes and Launch:
Should be able to estimate the overall program die construction timing
Should be able to estimate the required activities to implement product changes
Should be able to layout a launch process timeline including all their peripheral activities.
Anticipate and manage potential project delays. Lead and coordinate activities to bring the project back in track.
Tooling Shipments:
Lead, coordinate and participate in all the Stamping tools shipment activities until final delivery to the plant.
Lead, coordinate, prepare documents on all the logistics and customs requirements.
Plant Launch:
Lead, coordinate and participate in all related activities of launching the stamping dies in the production plant.
Maintain constant communication and coordination with the extended teams in the plant and the corporate office; including all the Manufacturing areas and all the quality departments until all the launch activities are fully completed.
Develop, coordinate and present documents to show project status at any time of the project.
Develop controls to manage the homeline die tryout activities with the die sources and the plant until the buyoff activities are fully completed.
Develop controls to manage all the product engineering changes that are required for each specific stamping part. Including cost and timing until the changes are validated and implemented.
Attend periodical launch review meetings, elaborate summary reports and plan of activities. Prepare for potential travel needs between the Toluca and Saltillo plants.
Lead, coordinate and participate in all the quality related launch activities. Including analyzing quality reports and developing corrective action plans.
Lead, coordinate, develop and collect all the tryout and buyoff documentation, elaborate a comprehensive package for final delivery to the plant customers.
Lead, coordinate and develop budget needs for the launch activities. Prepare summary reports and present to upper management for allocation approval.
Work with the purchasing department, elaborate RFQ’s as required, participate in source selection process and write the purchase requisitions required for any facets of the project.
Offload / Insource Needs:
Lead, coordinate and participate in all the activities related to offloading or insourcing stamping dies.
Lead, coordinate and participate in pressload reviews that will drive decision making for insourcing or offloading.
Develop the business case that would show the cost-benefit analysis.
Prepare all technical documents for plant, purchasing and suppliers’ review.
Evaluate the suppliers’ press equipment and elaborate action plans for tooling adaptation.
Develop timelines to support the overall offload or insource direction.
