About the role:
The Accounting Portfolio Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely accounting of the product portfolio, providing support across Retail, Leasing and Insurance businesses. Working under the leadership of the Portfolio Accounting Supervisor, this position will be responsible for preparing the financial reporting, internal controls and accounting analysis aligned with GM Financial (GMF) accounting policy and supporting Business Process Excellence initiatives across portfolio accounting activities. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both internal (operations, tax, etc.) and external (system development team, OEM, etc.) counterparts.
In this role you will:
- Perform daily accounting activities for assigned product portfolios (Retail, Leasing, and/or Insurance), ensuring accurate balances and timely resolution of reconciling items, with no items outstanding beyond 60 days.
- Ensure the timely completion of monthly accounting reconciliations for both key and non-key accounts.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and keep process maps and documentation updated for the different product portfolios.
- Support and collaborate on portfolio accounting–related projects, including process improvements and operational initiatives.
- Coordinate with the Finance Project Supervisor on all system developments and enhancements impacting portfolio accounting.
- Provide ongoing support to ensure compliance with GMF accounting policies and continuous improvement in accounting processes.
What makes You an ideal candidate?
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or similar field.
- At least 3 years of experience in Accounting, experience in a Big Four firm is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to create and maintain work relationships.
- Advanced oral, written and presentation skills; ability to communicate with individuals and groups.
- Fluent in English & Spanish (will be evaluated during the interview).
- Proactive with analytic and problem solving skill set.
- Knowledge of local accounting principles (NIF). US GAAP is a plus.
- MS Office tools proficiency.
- Proven ability to produce documents, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, etc.
- Experience or exposure to Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) compliance is a plus.
- Knowledge of preparing and mapping procedures and controls.
Additional Knowledge and Skills
Working effectively within an AI enabled environment:
- Ability to use AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot) to support daily work
- Skills in evaluating AI outputs for accuracy, compliance, and bias
- Experience integrating AI into workflows to improve efficiency or insights
- Familiarity with AI assisted research, summarization, and content generation
Understanding of responsible AI use, including ethics and data protection
