The Quality Inspector / ZEISS CMM Operator is responsible for performing dimensional inspections of precision-machined components throughout the manufacturing process using conventional measuring instruments and ZEISS Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). This role ensures products conform to engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications while supporting production quality, process control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
1. Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of precision-machined components in accordance with engineering drawings, inspection plans, and customer requirements.
2. Conduct dimensional inspections using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, dial indicators, and other inspection equipment.
3. Operate ZEISS PRISMO Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect complex machined components and verify dimensional accuracy.
4. Create, modify, and optimize ZEISS CALYPSO inspection programs based on engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications.
5. Verify product quality status, ensure proper product identification and traceability, and maintain accurate inspection records.
6. Complete inspection reports and maintain quality documentation in accordance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
7. Issue Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) for nonconforming products and promptly communicate quality issues to production and quality management.
8. Support root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for internal quality issues and customer complaints.
9. Perform routine verification and basic maintenance of measuring equipment, and maintain the inspection area in accordance with 5S and safety requirements.
10. Perform other duties and assignments as directed by supervisors.
Qualifications & Requirements
1. Technical school diploma or above in Mechanical Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Quality Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical discipline.
2. Minimum one (1) year of quality inspection experience in a CNC machining or precision manufacturing environment.
3. Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection requirements.
4. Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and dial indicators.
5. Experience operating ZEISS PRISMO Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) is preferred.
6. Experience using ZEISS CALYPSO software; the ability to create, modify, and optimize CMM inspection programs is highly preferred.
7. Strong quality awareness, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
8. Willingness to work rotating 8-hour shifts.
9. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
10. Recent graduates with strong technical knowledge and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Experience inspecting precision-machined components, including compressor housing, construction equipment transmission housing, castings, hydraulic components, or other high-precision machined parts.
2. Hands-on experience with ZEISS PRISMO CMM, VAST Gold active scanning technology, and ZEISS CALYPSO software.
3. Experience creating, modifying, and optimizing CALYPSO measurement programs for complex machined components.
4. Familiarity with CALYPSO PiWeb, CAD model import (IGES), statistical reporting, and measurement data analysis.
5. Knowledge of GD&T, SPC, MSA, and other quality management tools.
6. Experience supporting Caterpillar (CAT), Johnson Controls (JCI), or other global OEM customers is preferred. Familiarity with customer-specific quality requirements, PPAP documentation, and precision-machined component manufacturing will be considered a strong advantage.
