About the Company
We are a college counseling company providing individualized services to students and families from middle school through high school. We use Salesforce not only to manage internal business processes, but also to power a client-facing Experience Cloud portal where students and families log in, schedule meetings, manage action items, track progress, and interact directly with our services.
About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Salesforce Developer to help build, refine, and expand our Salesforce ecosystem over time. This role supports both core ways we use Salesforce: as our internal CRM infrastructure and as the foundation of our student- and family-facing Experience Cloud portal.
This is a Salesforce development role, not a Salesforce administrator or support role. We are looking for someone with real experience building, customizing, testing, and improving Salesforce systems — not someone primarily focused on user provisioning, permissions support, login troubleshooting, routine cleanup, or day-to-day admin maintenance.
This is a long-term, full-time position, not a short-term implementation role. We are not looking for someone to complete a six-month build and move on. We want someone who will work closely with leadership — especially the Director of Operations — to refine our business logic and continue evolving our CRM and portal as our programs, workflows, and service model change over time.
A separate Salesforce / Google Workspace administrator handles user provisioning, login troubleshooting, access support, and routine data maintenance. This role is for the person who builds the platform, extends its capabilities, and helps shape how the system develops long-term.
Responsibilities
Salesforce CRM Development
- Design, build, and maintain custom Salesforce functionality that supports internal business processes, service delivery workflows, and long-term platform scalability
- Translate evolving business requirements into Salesforce solutions using declarative tools, custom logic, and thoughtful system design
- Create and maintain custom objects, fields, validation rules, record logic, automations, and related platform features
- Ensure CRM architecture remains maintainable, scalable, and aligned with how the business actually operates
Experience Cloud / Client Portal Development
- Develop, maintain, and improve the student- and family-facing Experience Cloud portal
- Build and refine client-facing functionality related to scheduling, action items, profile updates, and progress tracking
- Improve the way portal activity connects to internal Salesforce workflows and operational processes
- Troubleshoot and improve both front-end portal functionality and the supporting back-end business logic
Workflow Automation and Business Logic
- Build and maintain automations using Salesforce Flow and related platform tools
- Implement workflow logic across statuses, assignments, communications, notifications, lifecycle stages, and internal handoffs
- Develop Apex-based solutions where declarative tools are not sufficient
- Make sound decisions about when to use native platform functionality versus custom development
Integrations and Connected Systems
- Build and maintain integrations between Salesforce and external systems such as scheduling tools, Slack, DocuSign, email-routing services, web forms, and other operational platforms
- Work with APIs, webhooks, and custom integration logic to support reliable cross-system workflows
- Help connect client-facing experiences with internal process automation in a durable way
Marketing and Communication Tooling
- Support development work related to Salesforce marketing and communication tools, including Marketing Cloud-related workflows
- Build or refine technical workflows that support communication sequencing and lifecycle-based outreach
Testing, QA, and Platform Improvement
- Test newly built features, automations, and integrations across realistic business scenarios
- Identify bugs, logic gaps, and edge cases before and after deployment
- Document technical decisions, workflow logic, and implementation details
- Contribute to a thoughtful release and QA process that supports long-term platform quality
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience developing on the Salesforce platform
- Demonstrated experience building in both internal Salesforce CRM environments and Salesforce Experience Cloud or similar client-facing portal environments
- Strong experience with Salesforce configuration and customization, including custom objects, fields, validation rules, Flow, and record-based logic
- Experience with SOQL and strong understanding of Salesforce data structures and object relationships
- Experience with Apex for custom business logic and backend development
- Experience with Lightning development, including Lightning Web Components or similar UI customization
- Experience building or maintaining custom workflow logic and automations in process-heavy business environments
- Experience working with integrations, APIs, webhooks, and third-party systems
- Strong testing and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to translate non-technical business requirements into practical technical solutions
- Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with operational leadership
Relevant Salesforce certifications (one or more preferred):
- Platform Developer I
- Platform App Builder
- Experience Cloud Consultant
- Sales Cloud Consultant
- Platform Developer II
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in consulting, implementation-partner work, or independent Salesforce development — and now looking for a stable, long-term embedded role
- Experience building or refining customer-facing portal experiences in Experience Cloud
- Experience supporting service-based businesses with complex internal workflows and client interaction models
- Experience with Marketing Cloud, Marketing Cloud Next, Account Engagement, or related Salesforce communication tooling
- Experience integrating Salesforce with scheduling systems, Slack, DocuSign, email services, and lead-capture tools
- Experience with billing-related logic, pricing structures, contract workflows, or product configuration in Salesforce
- Experience supporting organizations whose systems continue to evolve after initial implementation
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who has spent meaningful time building Salesforce solutions — for multiple clients or across multiple business use cases — and is now looking for a permanent role where they can take deeper ownership of one organization's systems over time.
This person should be comfortable working in an environment where some needs are already well defined and others are still emerging. They should be able to collaborate closely with leadership, understand operational pain points, translate those needs into system design, and then carry the work through development and testing.
They should also be comfortable operating across a wide range of complexity — from relatively straightforward workflow logic changes to more complex work involving portal enhancements, integrations, communication tooling, pricing logic, or business-process redesign inside Salesforce.
