Position Overview
We are looking for a Senior Microsoft SQL Server DBA / WMS Systems Administrator to support our Manhattan SCALE Enterprise Warehouse Management System (WMS). This role is responsible for maintaining high-performance SQL Server databases, ensuring system availability, reliability, and scalability for our warehouse operations.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with SQL Server administration, database optimization, high availability architecture, backup/recovery, and reporting services, and enjoys working in high-transaction logistics environments.
This role is critical to keeping warehouse operations running efficiently with minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities SQL Server Administration
- Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments supporting Manhattan SCALE WMS.
- Monitor system health and ensure database uptime and stability.
- Manage database configuration, upgrades, patching, and performance monitoring.
Performance Optimization
- Analyze and optimize slow queries, stored procedures, and indexing strategies.
- Monitor execution plans and implement improvements to increase database efficiency and throughput.
- Perform index maintenance, statistics updates, and database tuning.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
- Design and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions including:
- Replication
- Failover configurations
- Always On Availability Groups (preferred)
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular backup verification and recovery testing.
Backup & Restore Management
- Configure and monitor automated backup strategies including:
- Full backups
- Differential backups
- Transaction log backups
- Perform database restores and recovery operations when required.
Reporting & Business Intelligence
- Develop and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports.
- Support BI reporting and operational dashboards used by warehouse and leadership teams.
- Optimize reporting queries for large operational datasets.
Job Scheduling & Automation
- Manage SQL Server Agent jobs and scheduling processes.
- Automate routine tasks using T-SQL scripting and maintenance plans.
System Monitoring & Troubleshooting
- Proactively monitor database performance, disk usage, and system metrics.
- Troubleshoot issues affecting Manhattan SCALE WMS performance.
- Work closely with IT, application teams, and warehouse operations to resolve issues quickly.
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA
- Strong experience with SQL Server database administration
- Hands-on experience with:
- Database backup and recovery
- Performance tuning
- SQL Server Agent jobs
- T-SQL scripting
- SSRS reporting
- Experience supporting enterprise applications or operational systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Manhattan SCALE WMS
- Experience with SQL Server High Availability solutions
