Position Summary
The Tax Specialist is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all tax obligations of the company in Mexico. This role oversees the accurate calculation, reporting, and payment of federal, state, and local taxes, while managing tax risks, supporting audits, and ensuring compliance with regulations applicable to the automotive industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly and annual federal, state, and local tax returns.
- Review and request VAT refunds.
- INEGI reports monthly and annual
- Ministry of Economy reports & RNIE
- Ensure compliance with all tax obligations before the Mexican Tax Administration Service (SAT) and other regulatory authorities.
- Electronic accounting & DIOT monthly presentation to SAT
- Payroll reconciliation with accounting
- Transfer pricing and contracts management
- Calculate, review, and reconcile Corporate Income Tax (ISR), Value Added Tax (VAT/IVA), withholding taxes, and other applicable taxes.
- Coordinate internal and external tax audits.
- Respond to tax authority inquiries, audits, and information requests.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on the organization.
- Prepare tax reconciliations and support financial reporting processes.
- Coordinate the proper application of tax incentives and benefits applicable to the automotive industry.
- Participate in tax planning initiatives and process improvement projects.
- Provide tax support for foreign trade operations, imports, exports, and transfer pricing matters, when applicable.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, Purchasing, Human Resources, and Supply Chain teams to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions.
- Prepare tax reports and presentations for Finance Leadership and Corporate Management.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Master’s Degree or specialization in Taxation is preferred.
Languages
English B2-C1
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of experience in corporate taxation.
- Experience in manufacturing and/or automotive industry environments.
- Knowledge of foreign trade operations and IMMEX programs is preferred.
- Experience managing tax audits and interactions with tax authorities.
Technical Knowledge
- Mexican Income Tax Law (ISR).
- Mexican VAT Law (IVA).
- Federal Fiscal Code (CFF).
- State and local taxes.
- Financial Reporting Standards (NIF/IFRS).
- ERP systems (JDE preferred).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Intermediate to advanced English proficiency.
