Job Summary:
The Freight Broker Operations Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of freight shipments by supporting the brokerage team in day-to-day operations. This role involves coordinating shipments, managing carrier and customer communication, tracking freight, and handling administrative tasks to maintain high service levels and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and schedule freight shipments between shippers and carriers.
- Track and trace shipments to ensure on-time pickup and delivery.
- Communicate regularly with carriers and customers to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure service satisfaction.
- Enter and maintain accurate data in the Transportation Management System (TMS).
- Carrier sourcing, rate negotiation, and load booking.
- Monitor carrier compliance, including insurance, safety ratings, and contracts.
- Resolve issues such as delays, damages, or re-routes by working with relevant parties.
- Prepare and process shipping documents such as bills of lading and load tenders.
- Support invoicing and payment processes by ensuring load completion and documentation accuracy.
- Maintain strong working relationships with carriers, customers, and internal teams.
- Assist in maintaining KPIs and reporting performance metrics to management.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support logistics operations.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience in logistics, freight brokerage, or transportation industry.
- Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) and load boards (e.g., DAT, Truckstop).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word).
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with 3PLs or freight brokerage firms.
- Bilingual skills (Spanish or other languages) a plus.
- Understanding of DOT and FMCSA regulations.
