In this role you will be responsible for serving as the technical plastics engineering expert supporting Driver Unit programs through advanced expertise in plastic materials, injection molding, tooling, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM). You will drive product performance, quality, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness by leading material selection, mold design reviews, process development, troubleshooting, supplier support, tooling qualification, and launch readiness activities.
Should you be interested in overseeing these tasks and aiming for enhanced performance standards, your role will involve:
Lead plastic component development activities, including material selection, Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews, tooling feasibility assessments, and manufacturing readiness evaluations.
Provide technical expertise in plastics engineering by supporting injection molding processes, mold design reviews, material performance analysis, and defect resolution.
Conduct root cause investigations and drive corrective actions to resolve production, quality, and process-related issues.
Support suppliers throughout the product lifecycle, including tool trials, First-Off Tool (FOT) activities, process validations, APQP deliverables, and production launch readiness.
Drive continuous improvement through engineering standards, technical knowledge sharing, training initiatives, lessons learned, VEVA projects, and the development of local plastics engineering capabilities.
If you have/are:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 6+ years of experience in plastics engineering, injection molding, tooling, process engineering, or product development, preferably within the automotive industry.
Strong expertise in DFM, material selection, mold trials, FOT activities, tooling reviews, molding defect analysis, root cause investigations, and process troubleshooting.
Proven experience supporting suppliers, manufacturing plants, APQP activities, process validations, and product launch readiness in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred knowledge of advanced molding technologies (two-shot molding, overmolding, insert molding, or vertical molding), automotive safety/interior components, and relevant certifications such as RJG Master Molder, Mold Master, AIM Plastics Technology, Moldflow/Moldex3D, GD&T, or IATF 16949.
