Commercial Architectural / Engineering Drafter – Remote Freelance

ODAS Group is looking for a drafter/designer who understands how commercial projects are designed, documented, and permitted in the United States, especially in Texas. This position is not for general drafting or rendering only.
Candidates must be familiar with U.S. commercial construction documents, commercial permit plan sets, tenant improvement documentation, plan reviewer comments, construction notes, details, specifications, code analysis, life safety plans, accessibility/ADA coordination, and coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings.
Experience only with construction systems or documentation standards commonly used outside the U.S. may not be sufficient unless the candidate can demonstrate a strong understanding of U.S. commercial building methods, permitting requirements, and commercial plan set standards.
ODAS Group is looking for a remote freelance Commercial Architectural / Engineering Drafter or Designer to support our team with commercial projects in Texas, especially tenant improvement, office build-outs, retail spaces, small commercial projects, warehouse office areas, and permit-related plan sets.
This is a freelance / independent contractor position. Work will be remote, project-based, and coordinated directly with ODAS Group.

Payment: Per project, paid in Mexican Pesos (MXN), as determined by ODAS Group based on scope and complexity
Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of commercial architectural, structural, and MEP plan sets.
- Prepare and modify drawings based on PDF markups, red marks, reviewer comments, and internal instructions.
- Work on commercial drawings such as floor plans, demolition plans, proposed layout plans, reflected ceiling plans, finish plans, door/window schedules, accessibility details, code analysis sheets, life safety plans, MEP plans, structural coordination drawings, notes, details, and specifications.
- Assist with tenant improvement, office build-out, retail, restaurant, warehouse office, and small commercial project documentation.
- Review and help address city comments, red marks, or commercial plan reviewer comments when needed.
- Provide editable AutoCAD files, DWG files, PDFs, and required working files.
- Follow ODAS Group standards, title blocks, layers, checklists, and internal formats.
- Coordinate files through Google Drive.
- Communicate through email, WhatsApp, and Google Meet.
Requirements
- Experience using AutoCAD.
- Experience with commercial construction documents.
- Strong understanding of plan organization, notes, schedules, details, specifications, and code-related sheets.
- Ability to read and understand technical construction terminology in English.
- Ability to work from PDF markups, red marks, and written instructions.
- Ability to work remotely and meet agreed deadlines.
- Availability for Google Meet calls when needed.
- Ability to respond within reasonable timeframes during Texas business hours.
- Must have own computer, software access, and reliable internet connection.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions without making unauthorized design or scope changes.
- Must handle all client and project information confidentially.
- Must be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement before receiving project documents or client information.
- A short drafting or technical test may be required before assigning projects.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Texas commercial projects.
- Knowledge or strong understanding of Texas commercial building codes and permitting requirements.
- Experience with City of Houston or surrounding Texas jurisdictions is highly preferred.
- Experience preparing commercial permit plan sets.
- Experience with architectural, structural, MEP, ADA/TAS, and fire code coordination.
- Experience with tenant improvement, office, retail, restaurant, warehouse, or small commercial projects.
- Experience reviewing and addressing city comments or plan reviewer comments.
Applicants do not need to be licensed in Texas. Final plans may be reviewed, coordinated, and/or sealed by authorized professionals when required.
All project information, client-provided documents, red marks, and work instructions will be coordinated and provided through ODAS Group. The selected candidate will not be required to communicate directly with clients unless expressly authorized by ODAS Group.
All drawings, DWG files, PDFs, details, templates, working files, and project documents prepared for ODAS Group will remain the property of ODAS Group.
All work must be original or properly authorized. The selected candidate must not use copyrighted, third-party, or previously owned materials without written authorization.
Before being considered for project assignments, selected applicants may be asked to complete a short drafting and technical evaluation based on a sample U.S. commercial plan set. This may include reviewing red marks, identifying missing information, and making basic CAD corrections following ODAS Group standards.
