The Product Development Engineer supports downstream product development activities within a production environment, focusing on design adaptations, part derivatives, and engineering changes required to enable successful production line transfer and sustaining manufacturing. The role acts as the technical link between Global Product R&D and the Mexicali industrialization team, ensuring design intent is preserved while enabling robust, scalable manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
Support product design activities related to production line transfer and sustaining products
Develop and release part derivatives and design alterations within the approved design envelope
Implement and support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) related to manufacturability, cost, quality, or supply continuity
Collaborate with DFM/DFA and Process Engineers to incorporate manufacturing and assembly feedback into product designs
Support tolerance analysis, stack-ups, and interface definition for assemblies and sub-assemblies
Assist with technical issue resolution related to product design during ramp-up and sustaining production
Support sample builds, First Article evaluations, and transfer validation activities
Maintain engineering documentation, drawings, and specifications in coordination with Global Product R&D
Scope & Authority:
Design authority limited to approved alterations, derivatives, and sustaining changes
Authority to recommend design improvements based on manufacturing and quality feedback
