Position Information
- Position Title: Control Room Operator
- Reporting Line: Production Leader
- Team Size: Directly work a team of 6 people (will be increased according to the actual operation situation)
- Work Location: Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila, Mexico
- Core Role: Ensure safe supervision, control and optimization of chemical synthesis operations (polymerization reactions), dosing, and formulation via the system communication with a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC); efficiently ensures compliance with production orders regarding volume, quality (solids content, pH), efficient usage of materials, while setting priorities during process deviations or mechanical failures, ensuring timely recording all information in physical, digital checklists, reports and ERP system (SAP). This role effectively support field operating personnel to maintain a continuous, stable, and chemical risk-free operation, strictly promoting a safety culture (HSE) and environmental compliance.
Job Responsibilities
- Chemical Process Monitoring & Control: Monitor and control real-time critical reaction parameters in reactors and dilution tanks (exothermic temperature profiles, pressure, feed flows, agitation, and residence times) through the PLC communication system.
- Field Operations Support: Support on the coordination and follow up of activities such as raw material unloading, chemical weighting and preparation, finished product transfers, and utilities areas.
- In-Process Quality Control: Validate and correlate control variables with in-process laboratory quick tests (pH, solids content, density) to adjust chemical recipes for different polycarboxylate grades.
- Breakdown & Incident Management: Communicate and coordinate immediate actions during failures of critical equipment (dosing pumps, vacuum systems, cooling towers) and prepare detailed reports on operating conditions, raw material consumption, and batch yields.
- Shift Handover: Execute a structured shift handover, communicating the status of batches in progress, inventory of critical reagents, equipment availability, and any previous quality or safety deviations.
- Safety & Sustainability: Ensure that reactor and premix startups, shutdowns, and washouts are performed under strict chemical safety procedures to prevent runaway reactions, leaks, or chemical spills, minimizing environmental impacts and effluent generation.
Job Challenges
- Rapidly diagnosing and correcting deviations in reaction temperature curves (polymerization exotherm) to prevent batch loss or process safety hazards.
- Support on coordinating production operators and maintenance staff to prioritize and fix failures that impact plant continuity.
- Maintaining strict discipline inside the control room, preventing unauthorized personnel from manipulating the system, and ensuring physical and digital traceability for every batch.
- Immediately suspending any operation or reagent unloading that does not comply with chemical safety procedures or quality standards.
- Timely managing the containment and cleanup of any chemical spills or hazardous waste according to the emergency response plan.
Job RequirementsEducation and Experience
- Education: Technical Degree in Industrial Chemistry, preferred Chemical Engineering, or a related technical/professional field.
- Required Experience: Experience in industrial processes; it is highly desirable in polymers, resins or chemical plants. Preferred to have previous experience as a console or field operator in continuous or batch chemical process plants.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent Spanish and good writing and reading skills in English
Technical Knowledge
- Ideal candidate has experience in Operation of PLC through operation system, Distributed Control System (DCS), SCADA (e.g., DeltaV, Siemens PCS7, Honeywell), and industrial instrumentation.
- Basic knowledge of unit operations (chemical reactions, heat transfer, fluid pumping).
- Safe handling of hazardous chemicals, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Process Safety Management (PSM) standards.
- Digital tools: Microsoft Office, preferably process trending software (e.g., PI System), and ERP systems (e.g., SAP PP/PM modules).
Critical Competencies
- High attention to detail and analytical capacity to correlate simultaneous variables (temperature, flow) and predict process behavior.
- Quick response capacity and decision-making under pressure when dealing with critical process variables.
- Assertive communication skills to direct and support the coordination of the activities of field operators.
- Rigorous focus on operational discipline, order, and compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) procedures.
