Job Summary:
The Junior Characterization Engineer is responsible for supporting and executing automated bench characterization activities under the guidance of senior team members, on high-speed signal integrity products—including optical and electrical.
This role involves using an existing Python repository with high-performance bench test equipment to measure, record, and analyze the signal integrity of high-speed mixed-signal products in an automated environment, contributing to the delivery of high-quality results across a large sample size over PVT.
The engineer will actively develop their knowledge of signal integrity techniques and lab practices from senior team members, building the attention to detail and debug skills required to grow in the role.
They will work closely with multiple functional teams, using strong communication skills to support the planning and execution of project characterization activities. They'll also proactively engage with debug issues and prioritize tasks to help meet project deadlines.
Responsibilities:
- Support the team in planning and reviewing characterization plans, schedules, and hardware requirements.
- Learn to define, integrate, and implement product-specific characterization test benches—pulling together test equipment, PCB hardware, software, and fixtures, with growing exposure to optical and electrical products where required.
- Bring up and develop repeatable, reliable automation solutions (Python, VISA, data processing) under guidance from senior team members.
- Analyze results and data using tools like JMP, Python, and Excel, and review findings with the core team.
- Work closely with other teams, locally and at other sites, to support execution of characterization activities to schedule.
- Learn and contribute to Python automation and the team's characterization repository.
- Begin adding and improving automated test methods and post-processing techniques under senior guidance.
- Adopt and actively use Claude AI daily to boost efficiency.
- Actively build skills and knowledge in relevant areas—like new test equipment, electronics, signal integrity, automation/programming, standards, packaging, connections, company processes, tools, etc.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with at least 2 to 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Intermediate English writing and verbal communication skills.
- Solid technical knowledge in electronics.
- Solid programming skills, Python preferrable.
- Able to work under pressure in a highly paced, dynamic R&D environment.
- Excellent team-player who positively interacts and shares knowledge.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Capable of self-study/training/learning.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to innovate, be creative and have good attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications:
- 2+ years’ experience in Semiconductor, or a similar field is preferred.
- Familiar and comfortable with electronic test methodologies and measurements (i.e. DC electronics, voltage, current, power, timing measurements).
- Basics on high-speed signal integrity test methodologies and measurements (i.e. NRZ/PAM4 eye metrics, BER and S-parameters).
- Strong fundamentals on programming, Python preferrable.
- Capable of developing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with design, product, validation, test and applications engineers.
