About the Role:
We are seeking detail-oriented and customer-focused Billing Assistants to join our growing medical billing team. The ideal candidate has experience with insurance billing, claim follow-up, and patient collections, along with excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of medical insurance processes.

Responsibilities
- Submit, track, and monitor insurance claims.
- Research and resolve claim denials, rejections, and billing discrepancies.
- Follow up with insurance carriers through payer portals and phone calls.
- Contact patients regarding outstanding balances and past-due accounts.
- Explain patient statements, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and insurance benefits professionally.
- Process patient payments and establish payment plans when appropriate.
- Document all billing activity accurately in TherapyNotes.
- Maintain accurate patient account balances.
- Work assigned Accounts Receivable (A/R) aging reports to ensure timely collections.
- Escalate complex billing issues to the Billing Manager.
- Assist with billing-related administrative tasks and special projects as needed.

- EMR/EHR: TherapyNotes
- Clearinghouses: Claim.MD, Office Ally
- Insurance Portals: Availity, Optum, Cigna, Medicare, and other payer portals
- Productivity Tools: Microsoft Office, Freshdesk
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of medical billing experience.
- Experience with insurance billing and claim follow-up.
- Experience with patient collections.
- Strong understanding of: Explanation of Benefits (EOBs), Deductibles, Copays and Coinsurance
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Comfortable discussing financial responsibility with patients over the phone.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while meeting productivity goals.
- Proficient with computer systems and able to learn new software quickly.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with behavioral health billing.
- Experience using TherapyNotes is a plus.
This Position Is NOT a Good Fit If You:
- Have no medical billing experience.
- Have no insurance billing or claim follow-up experience.
- Have no patient collections experience.
- Are not comfortable making outbound collection calls.
- Have difficulty explaining insurance or billing concepts to patients professionally.
- Struggle with attention to detail or accurate documentation.
- Have difficulty managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Lack strong customer service or conflict resolution skills.
- Do not have strong written and verbal English communication skills.
