Position Summary:
The Key Account Manager is responsible for directly interfacing with clients to provide updates, schedule deliveries, solve problems, and attend performance meetings on-site at the customer. The Key Account Manager is also responsible for the daily execution of import/export container movements, coordinating terminal appointments, and managing the physical yard, while this role bridges the gap between drivers and yard operations and the customer, ensuring on-time delivery, meeting all expectations, and KPI’s of the customer while minimizing demurrage/detention fees, and maximizing profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Customer Facing & Account Management
Primary Contact: Serve as the main point of contact for assigned clients
regarding container status, last-minute changes, and issue resolution.
Customer Meetings: Attend regular client meetings (in-person) to review Key
Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as on-time pickup/delivery, detention, and
hot container turn times.
Proactive Communication: Inform customers of delays, port congestion, or
chassis shortages before they impact the supply chain.
Relationship Building: Strengthen client relationships through professional,
empathetic, and responsive service.
Account Growth: Work with the customer and identify new opportunities to further grow the account.
2. Drayage Dispatching & Operational Leadership
Dispatcher Team Leadership: Supervise the daily workflow of the dispatcher team, providing guidance, conducting training, and ensuring accurate, efficient dispatching.
Carrier Management: Schedule and dispatch carriers to port terminals, rail ramps, and customer locations.
Performance Monitoring: Monitor driver real-time locations to ensure on-time, efficient pickups and deliveries.
3. Yard Management & Terminal Operations
Container Tracking: Monitor container availability (LFD - Last Free Day) via terminal portals to avoid demurrage.
Equipment Control: Manage the inventory of empty containers, chassis, and loaded containers in the yard.
Terminal Liaison: Coordinate with marine terminals and railroads to ensure efficient turn times for drivers.
Requirements & Qualifications:
Experience:
5+ years experience in drayage dispatching, trucking logistics, or container management (required).
Bilingual – Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish.
3PL Experience: Proven experience in a 3PL or Asset-based brokerage environment.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in TMS software, YMS software, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Excel.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for client-facing meetings.
Problem Solving:
Ability to think critically, make decisions under pressure, and resolve customer complaints.
Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Logistics preferred.
