Job Description
VOLCANIX AUTOMATION is seeking experienced Controls & Autonomous Mobile Robots (AGV/AMR) Engineers to support industrial automation projects across North America.
This role focuses on the integration, commissioning, and support of autonomous mobile robots (AGV/AMR) in manufacturing and logistics environments. Candidates must be comfortable working on-site, adapting to dynamic production conditions, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Integrate, configure, and commission AGV/AMR systems in industrial environments
- Program and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens) for AMR/AGV interfaces
- Develop communication between AMRs and plant systems (PLC, MES, WMS)
- Configure navigation systems (SLAM, QR, magnetic, LiDAR-based guidance)
- Support fleet management systems and traffic control logic
- Perform system debugging, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Commission and validate autonomous navigation and safety systems
- Support installation, startup, and ramp-up of AMR/AGV solutions
- Integrate mobile robots with conveyors, robotic cells, and material handling systems
- Ensure compliance with industrial safety standards (ISO, ANSI, RIA)
- Collaborate with controls, mechanical, IT, and production teams
Required Skills
Controls Engineering:
- Experience with:
- Allen-Bradley (RSLogix / Studio 5000)
- Siemens (TIA Portal)
- Industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA)
Autonomous Mobile Robotics:
- Experience with AGV or AMR systems (deployment, commissioning, troubleshooting)
- Understanding of navigation technologies
- Vision-based navigation
- Experience with fleet management software and traffic control systems
- Knowledge of battery systems, charging stations, and docking
Mandatory Requirements
- Experience working with AGV/AMR systems
- or
- relevant certification in autonomous mobile robotics
Preferred Experience
- Automotive or manufacturing industry (OEMs or Tier 1)
- Experience in material handling or intralogistics systems
- Integration with WMS / MES systems
- Experience with vendors such as:
- MiR (Mobile Industrial Robots)
- Omron AMR
- KUKA KMP
- OTTO Motors
- Safety systems for mobile robotics
General Requirements
- Willingness to travel 90–100% across North America
- Ability to work independently on customer sites
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and documentation skills
- Engineering or technical degree preferred
- Good english level
