Position Overview
The Advanced Project Buyer acts as the strategic procurement lead during the development phase of new projects. This role is responsible for selecting the right suppliers for new components and raw materials, ensuring they meet the technical, quality, and cost targets required for a successful launch. You will bridge the gap between R&D/Engineering and the operational supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing for New Projects: Define and execute the sourcing strategy for new components and raw materials from the RFQ stage through to project handover.
- Supplier Selection & Nomination: Identify and audit potential suppliers, ensuring they align with Nidec’s global standards and project-specific technical requirements.
- Cost Engineering: Drive "Design-to-Cost" initiatives by collaborating with Engineering to optimize component specifications and achieve target costs.
- APQP & PPAP Management: Coordinate with the Quality department to ensure suppliers meet all APQP milestones and secure timely PPAP approval for new parts.
- Contract Negotiation: Negotiate development agreements, tooling costs, and piece-price contracts to ensure long-term competitiveness.
- Project Management: Track and report on procurement KPIs (Lead time, Budget, Quality) to the Project Management Office (PMO) and global stakeholders.
- Risk Mitigation: Identify potential supply chain risks during the development phase and implement contingency plans to ensure seamless SOP (Start of Production).
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience as a Project Buyer or Advanced Sourcing Specialist within the automotive or high-precision manufacturing industry.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (stamping, casting, plastic injection, etc.) and raw material markets.
- Language: Advanced English proficiency (Professional/Fluent) is required for global supplier interaction and corporate reporting.
- Tools: Expert-level negotiation skills and experience managing complex Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages.
Preferred Skills
- Software: Advanced proficiency in SAP or similar ERP systems and project management software.
- Analytical Skills: High capacity for cost breakdown analysis and financial forecasting.
- Leadership: Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
