Job Summary:
This position directly reports to the Surgery Department Lead and Director of Operations and works directly with physicians to fulfill surgery requirements by patients in the medical practice. This position works with hospitals and surgery centers to coordinate the care of surgical patients with the hospital to ensure positive surgical outcomes.
Essential Functions of the Position:
- Book surgeries with hospital/surgery centers and notify patients.
- Describe what the surgery involves, its purpose, and what the patient can expect during the procedure.
- Outline potential risks, benefits, and expected outcomes to help the patient make an informed decision.
- Create a clear and detailed summary of the pre-operative orders, including any tests or evaluations needed.
- Assures all records for surgeries received by hospital or surgery centers .
- Schedule pre-op/ post-op appointments, send post-op x-ray orders.
- Submit authorization for surgery & post-op physical therapy/ DME .
- Understands and abides by all HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Have the ability to work with colleagues virtually and in person to assist with surgery scheduling procedures.
Education and Experience:
● High school diploma or equivalent
● Bilingual (Spanish) is required
● Must have experience working as a surgery scheduler and knowledge of insurance authorizations
● Must have experience working with EMR systems
● Experience working with hospital EMR and eCW is preferred
● Must have medical terminology knowledge
