Job Summary
The Tax Jr. Analyst is responsible for assisting with basic tax-related tasks, including data entry, document preparation, and administrative support. This role works under close supervision and follows established procedures.
This job profile is intended for early-career professionals who apply broad theoretical knowledge and require the ability to investigate and analyse problems. Solutions are typically discussed/verified with a more senior member.
Key Responsibilities
Indirect Tax Compliance
- Prepare, analyze, and file indirect tax returns (U.S. Sales & Use Tax, Canada GST/HST, and VAT in South America), ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Use automation tools such as Vertex Returns and Avalara, reconciling information against accounting records (SAP/Dynamics), accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Set up and maintain new tax jurisdictions as needed, including system configuration/parameterization.
- Manage the electronic filing of returns and payments, as well as manual preparation when automation is unavailable.
- Prepare property tax renditions and coordinate payment requests.
- Manage annual tax license renewals, ensuring timely compliance.
Stakeholder Management
- Address internal and external inquiries related to indirect taxes (tax rate determination, taxability criteria, etc.).
- Support audit processes by compiling, validating, and providing required information.
- Maintain, analyze, and cleanse customer records, tax reports, and supporting documentation (exemption/resale certificates, export evidence, among others).
- Collaborate with finance, legal, and operations teams to ensure tax compliance and process improvements.
Profile Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in Mexican VAT (knowledge of U.S., Canada, and/or South America is a plus).
- Experience with tax automation tools (Vertex and Avalara highly preferred).
- Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP and/or Dynamics.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, reconciliations, data analysis).
- Intermediate to advanced English level (B1/B2+) for professional communication.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
