Media Monitoring Analyst Guatemala (Spanish / English)
Location: Guatemala City preferred; remote within Central America considered
Type: Full time, contingent on contract award. Expected start Q4 2026 / Q1 2027
Positions: 3 to 4 analysts and 1 team lead (see below)
About the role
We are building a small team to run a daily media monitoring service for an international government client in Guatemala City. Every working day, before 7 a.m., the client receives a press summary, a top news highlights package, and a social media roundup. Through the day, the team sends real-time alerts on WhatsApp when the client or its priority topics appear in the news. On request, the team produces coverage reports, transcriptions, and summaries of press conferences.
The work is fast, early, and detail heavy. You will read Guatemalan and international press, watch broadcast and social channels, and turn what matters into short, accurate summaries in English.
What you will do
- Monitor Guatemalan print, broadcast, online, and social media (Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp) starting early each morning
- Write three-line summaries in English that answer who, what, when, where, and why, with a link or scan to every source
- Select and report the top social media posts of the day with reach and engagement figures
- Build the daily highlights package: front pages, top stories, political cartoon, topic summaries
- Send WhatsApp alerts through the day on client mentions and priority topics: bilateral relations, governance, migration, security, trade, international news
- Track designated foreign state media and embassy accounts and report on their output
- Produce transcriptions of video and audio, with speakers identified, usually within two hours
- Prepare coverage reports: tone, coverage type, and outlet counts
- Proofread everything before it goes out. One valid complaint a month is the client's limit.
What we need from you
- Native or near-native Spanish and strong written English. Every deliverable is in English; you will be reading in Spanish.
- Two or more years in journalism, communications, media monitoring, public affairs, or a related field
- Working knowledge of Guatemalan media, politics, and public life
- Experience with social media analytics tools (for example Meltwater, Brandwatch, Talkwalker, CrowdTangle successors, or native platform analytics). Tell us which ones.
- Comfortable with early starts. The core shift begins before 5 a.m. on working days, with weekend and holiday coverage on rotation.
- Fast, careful writer. Speed without errors.
- Discretion. All material is confidential to the client.
- Basic design skills (Canva, Adobe, or similar) for visual reports are a plus
Team lead (one position)
In addition to the above: fluent spoken English for a daily working relationship with the client, three or more years managing a small editorial or monitoring team, and willingness to be the named point of contact reachable by phone, WhatsApp, and email, including outside working hours.
How to apply
Apply through this form: https://forms.gle/zR3xjZ1Yec4RAiZFA
You will be asked to upload a CV in English and samples of your work (an English summary of a Spanish-language news article is ideal), and to answer a few short questions about your availability for early-morning shifts and the analytics tools you have used. The form ends with a short practical exercise based on today's Guatemalan news.
We are collecting applications now and will interview shortlisted candidates in the coming weeks.
