The Senior Buyer is responsible for leading sourcing and procurement activities for materials, components, and services that support the manufacturing of medical devices.
This role ensures that suppliers meet company requirements for quality, delivery, cost, and compliance with applicable regulatory standards (ISO 13485, FDA, GMP). The role includes monitoring key performance indicators, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet the AOP (Annual Operations Plan) of Centerpiece, and ensuring compliance with the Centerpiece Quality System and applicable laws.
The Senior Buyer also drives strategic sourcing initiatives, supplier development, and cost reduction projects to enhance supply chain reliability and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and continuity of supply.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct sourcing events (RFQs/RFPs), and perform cost analyses.
- Negotiate long-term agreements, pricing, and terms for critical or high-spend categories.
- Manage procurement for new product introductions (NPI), including sourcing new materials and coordinating validation activities.
2. Supplier Management & Compliance
- Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure consistent performance and collaboration.
- Monitor supplier performance metrics (quality, cost, delivery, responsiveness) and drive improvement plans as needed.
- Support supplier audits, corrective action requests, and requalification efforts in coordination with Quality Assurance.
- Ensure all procurement activities comply with ISO 13485, FDA, and GMP requirements.
- Ensure that supplier documentation (Certificates of Conformance, specifications, change notifications) is properly managed and traceable.
3. Cost Control & Continuous Improvement
- Lead cost reduction and value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for alternative materials or suppliers that meet regulatory and quality standards.
- Support inventory optimization by balancing cost, lead time, and service level objectives.
- Analyze purchasing data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Engineering, Production, Planning, and Quality to support operational requirements and resolve supply chain issues.
- Support change control processes for materials or suppliers affecting medical device designs or specifications.
- Participate in multi-functional project teams focused on process improvement, new product development, or supply chain resilience.
5. Compliance, Documentation & Reporting
- Ensure purchasing records, contracts, and correspondence are accurate and maintained per company procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by providing purchasing and supplier documentation.
- Ensure all suppliers comply with regulatory and ethical sourcing requirements.
- Generate periodic reports on supplier performance, cost savings, and sourcing metrics.
Academic Background:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Purchasing or Supply Chain in a regulated manufacturing environment (preferably medical devices).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience interacting with associates at all levels of the organization, including executive management.
- Commitment to product quality and compliance with applicable regulations (federal, local, and state).
Technical Skills:
- Solid knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, Purchasing and inventory control principles.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office and data analysis tools
- Certifications in APICS CPIM, CSCP, or CPM/CPSM, preferably.
- Familiarity with ISO 13485, FDA 21 CFR Part 820, and GMP standards.
