The American School Foundation (ASF) is seeking a skilled, safety-conscious, and experienced Fine Arts Center (Theater) Technical Assistant. In this role, you will be an essential part of our cultural and academic events, utilizing your expertise in professional theatrical equipment to manage stage operations. From load-in and set building to running live audio, lighting, and stage rigging during evening performances, you will ensure our Fine Arts Center operates at a world-class standard.
Stage Operations: Execute load-in, building, setup, strike, load-out, and technical running of professional theatrical and school events.
Morning Readiness: Prepare and configure the theater backend to ensure seamless transitions for early morning assemblies and events.
Evening Support: Provide comprehensive technical running and logistical support to the Cultural Affairs Coordinator and Technical Director during evening events.
Facility Upkeep: Monitor and report facility maintenance, repair, and general upkeeping needs to the Technical Director.
Inventory Control: Maintain permanent, meticulous records of equipment and supply inventories; report replacement or repair needs promptly.
Equipment Care: Keep specialized storage spaces (lighting, audio, hardware) highly organized and execute continuous cleaning of lighting fixtures and sensitive gear.
Safety Compliance: Enforce wide-ranging safety and security regulations required for theatrical and exhibition spaces.
Training Support: Assist the Technical Director in training student groups and community volunteers on the correct, safe use of theatrical gear.
PPE Management: Monitor and report personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to keep the technical team fully compliant with safety laws.
Diploma: High School diploma or equivalent.
Technical Certifications: Certified in the use of theatrical mechanics and equipment.
Safety Certifications (Mandatory): DC3 Certification (Work at Heights) and Manual Handling of Loads Certification.
Languages: Preferably fluent in English (ability to communicate within an international school environment).
Theatrical Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience managing professional theatrical equipment, including lighting, audio, video, rigging, and both aerial and floor theatrical mechanics (Spiral Lift Drive movable floors).
Trades Knowledge: Basic working knowledge of carpentry, stage electricity, and manual weight handling.
Set Production: Basic practical experience in scenic construction, set setup, and strike protocols.
Flexibility: Complete availability to work a flexible schedule (including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends) to match planned activities.
Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and fully capable of performing physically demanding, high-intensity stage work.
Team Player: Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work under pressure alongside directors, students, and external crews.
