Description
We are looking for a Senior Buyer to join a newly created position supporting the launch and operation of a new manufacturing plant. This role will be responsible for the strategic sourcing and purchasing of critical raw materials, with a strong focus on steel, scrap metal, foundry materials, and commodities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead direct purchasing of critical raw materials, including steel, scrap metal, foundry materials, and other commodities.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with local steel and scrap suppliers.
Manage local and global movements across different commodities, including steel and scrap metal.
Monitor commodity market trends and pricing references, including American Metal Market (AMM).
Negotiate pricing, volumes, contracts, and commercial terms with suppliers.
Manage an annual purchasing budget/spend of approximately $120M USD, based on an estimated consumption of 23–24 tons per hour.
Identify opportunities for cost reduction, supplier optimization, and improved commercial conditions.
Coordinate indirect purchasing activities related to sand and ferroalloys.
Lead and develop a team including 2 supervisors, supporting MRO and direct purchasing activities.
Support sourcing strategies and procurement activities for the new plant.
Collaborate with global procurement teams and international suppliers.
Requirements
5+ years of experience in Direct Procurement/Purchasing, preferably within steel, foundry, metal processing, automotive, or manufacturing industries.
Strong experience negotiating steel, scrap metal, commodities, and raw materials.
Proven experience managing high-volume purchasing and significant budgets/spend.
Knowledge of steel and metal markets, including pricing references such as American Metal Market (AMM).
Strong supplier negotiation and relationship management skills.
Previous experience leading or coordinating procurement teams.
Advanced English – mandatory.
Strong analytical, financial, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
