Job Description
VOLCANIX AUTOMATION is seeking experienced Controls & Robotics Engineers to support General Motors projects across North America.
This role involves PLC programming, robotic integration, system commissioning, and production support for advanced manufacturing systems. Candidates must be comfortable working on-site at customer facilities and thrive in fast-paced production environments.
Responsibilities
Design and develop PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
Program and troubleshoot PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
Develop and maintain programs using:
RSLogix / Studio 5000
TIA Portal
Configure and support SCADA systems (Ignition preferred)
Program, integrate, and commission industrial robots
Integrate robots with PLC-controlled automation systems
Perform system debugging, optimization, and troubleshooting
Commission and debug automated equipment on-site
Support equipment installation, startup, and production launches
Integrate motion control, safety systems, and robotic cells
Collaborate with controls, mechanical, and production teams
Required Skills
Controls Engineering:
Strong experience in PLC programming and industrial automation
Experience platforms:
· Allen-Bradley
· Siemens
· Matrox Cameras
· HOKUTO Conveyors
Robotics Engineering:
Experience programming industrial robots, such as:
· Fanuc
· KUKA
· Strong troubleshooting and commissioning skills
Mandatory Requirements
2+ years of experience with General Motors GCCS/GRS standards
Additional Requirements
Experience working in Body-in-White (BIW), powertrain facilities, GA
Minimum 2 years of on-site (field) experience
Preferred Experience
Automotive industry (OEMs such as GM, Tesla, Ford, FCA)
Tier 1 automotive suppliers
Material handling, assembly automation, or welding systems
Vision systems integration
Error proofing experince (EPP)
General Requirements
Willingness to travel 90–100% across North America
Ability to work independently on customer sites
Strong communication and documentation skills
Engineering or technical degree preferred
