Position Summary
The Field Service Technician II is responsible for performing service, maintenance, and troubleshooting on TARGAN systems at customer locations. This role represents a fully capable, independent technician who can diagnose and resolve most issues without direct supervision while continuing to develop advanced technical skills. The Field Service Technician II plays a key role in executing high-quality preventive maintenance, supporting uptime improvements, and contributing to the reduction of reactive service events through proactive issue identification and strong service execution. Candidate must be fluent in Spanish and English, comfortable with traveling to hatchery locations outside of their assigned sites, and comfortable with providing remote support when not physically on-site. Remote support is required for this role, once the machine is installed and stable. Please note, applicants cannot own birds.
Key Job Responsibilities
Service Execution & Troubleshooting

Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair on TARGAN systems.

Independently resolve most service issues and escalate complex problems when necessary.

Follow standardized troubleshooting processes and procedures.

Support installation and integration of equipment at customer sites.
Preventive Maintenance & Proactive Support

Perform preventive maintenance according to established procedures and checklists.

Identify early signs of wear, environmental impact, and system performance issues.

Communicate potential risks to the Regional Service Manager and Senior FSTs.

Support condition-based maintenance efforts by providing accurate field data.
Service Event Reduction

Execute repairs correctly to minimize repeat service calls.

Identify and report recurring issues or failure trends.

Take a proactive approach to reduce unplanned downtime.
Customer Interaction

Communicate professionally with customer supervisors and operators.

Provide clear updates on service work, timelines, and system status.

Ensure a positive customer experience during each service visit.
SRO Documentation

Complete Service Request Orders (SROs) accurately and on time.

Document troubleshooting steps, parts used, and service actions.

Follow standardized documentation requirements.
Collaboration & Team Support

Work with Senior FSTs and Remote Support to resolve more complex issues.

Share knowledge and solutions with other technicians when applicable.

Support training of newer technicians when assigned.
Operational Responsibilities

Maintain tools, equipment, and service inventory.

Follow all safety procedures and company policies.

Participate in after-hours, weekend, and holiday support rotations as required.
Key Competencies & Skills

Fluent in Spanish and English

Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, PLC-controlled systems, and sensors (photo eyes, proximity switches, temperature, pressure, etc.)

Strong communication skills and professionalism when working with customers and internal teams; able to complete clear, timely service reports

Ability to read and work from electrical schematics, blueprints, and machine drawings; capable of diagnosing issues at the component level

Experience using laptops/tablets and diagnostic software for machine interface, troubleshooting, and service reporting

Willingness to learn and develop technical skills

Self-starter with solid problem-solving skills; able to identify root cause, test sensors/inputs, and restore equipment to operation with minimal supervision

Education & Experience Requirements

Associate degree in electro-mechanical, industrial maintenance, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)

1–5 years of experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated industrial equipment in environments such as manufacturing, food processing, or poultry systems

Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude encouraged

Committed to safe work practices; valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed
Physical Requirements

Working with live animals in hatchery environments
Working Conditions

Work primarily performed in commercial poultry hatcheries, beginning at ~5am, with operations running 6 days per week, including holidays that fall on production days

Exposure to heat, humidity, and varying environmental conditions

Travel up to 50% with less than 50% overnight travel

On-call availability for emergency service support
