Position Summary
The Cost Analyst is responsible for all aspects of manufacturing and production cost analysis, as well as inventory management across all business locations.
This role focuses on comparing actual costs versus standard costs, identifying variances, and providing clear explanations by customer, part number, and production jobs.
The Cost Analyst works closely with Engineering, Estimating, and Manufacturing teams to resolve variances, update Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings, and identify cost-saving opportunities. This role also collaborates with Purchasing to drive material cost reductions.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Cost & Control
- Ensure the integrity of inventory cost and valuation.
- Maintain accuracy and timeliness of inventory transactions, including:
- Inventory receipts
- Inventory usage
- Finished goods shipments
- Partner with Production Managers to ensure transaction accuracy.
- Lead inventory cycle count programs across all locations.
- Investigate root causes of discrepancies and recommend improvements in inventory control.
- Collaborate with Purchasing to ensure purchase order costs are accurate.
Cost Analysis & Variance Management
- Review work orders by comparing actual costs to standard costs.
- Identify variances and determine root causes.
- Partner with Manufacturing and Engineering to improve quoting and estimating processes.
- Ensure labor and inventory transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
Reporting & Financial Analysis
- Prepare and analyze monthly gross margin reports by:
- Customer
- Part number
- Production job
- Perform account reconciliations for physical inventories and cycle counts.
- Report on labor productivity and efficiency across all locations.
Continuous Improvement
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and Engineering on Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
- Track cost savings from CI projects and Kaizen events.
Month-End Support
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Analyze inventory and prepare supplemental reports as needed.
Additional Responsibilities

Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in cost analysis and inventory, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
- Experience with accounting systems such as:
- Global Shop
- Epicor
- Or similar ERP systems
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
