General Purpose
The Senior Automation Mechanical Design Engineer leads the mechanical design, development, and implementation of semi-automated and fully automated manufacturing equipment within the AMD group. This role owns equipment design from concept through release, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements while collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing resources. The position provides technical leadership, mentors junior engineers, and drives standardization and continuous improvement in automation design.
Key Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design of automated equipment from concept through implementation.

Define machine architecture, layouts, tooling, motion systems, guarding, ergonomics, and serviceability.

Create and review 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation using CAD software.

Design machine frames, fixtures, tooling, pneumatic and servo-driven mechanisms, and operator interfaces.

Apply GD&T, DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, material selection, structural calculations, and component selection.

Lead design reviews, identify technical risks, and ensure compliance with user, process, and safety requirements.

Collaborate with Controls, NPI, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, suppliers, and machine shops to ensure successful equipment integration.

Support fabrication, assembly, debugging, FAT, SAT, installation, commissioning, and production ramp-up.

Troubleshoot mechanical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

Drive design standardization, reusable modules, documentation quality, and continuous improvement.

Maintain engineering documentation and revision control while mentoring junior engineers and supporting supplier technical reviews.
