DOT Compliance Specialist Weekends
Schedule: Fri-Mon 6:00 am - 6:00pm
Summary
DOT Compliance Specialists are responsible for the company’s compliance with federal and state regulations while interfacing with driver’s and operations in all divisions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure Company compliance with DOT regulations
- Ensure driver compliance with company policies
- Educate drivers regarding DOT regulations and CSA scores.
- Educate and assist drivers regarding logs/hours of service during after hours periods when logs team is not available
- Coordinate after hours accident handling including drug and alcohol testing, insurance adjusters, police/emt personell, legal staff and internal company communications
- Manage DOT driver annual reviews and renewals in accordance with DOT regulation 391.25. This includes discussions with drivers in assigned areas to discuss safety, compliance, physical requirements and adherence to company policy to include as much information about the driver’s experience as reasonably available.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in developing and implementing metrics to monitor driver compliance and vehicle safety and take remedial action whenever there is a lapse.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in individually assessing driver motor vehicle reports to implement remedial training or terminate or disqualify driver status.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in assessing convictions and making an independent decision of continued employment or other employment actions necessary based on the severity.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in terminating or disqualifying drivers if they are non-compliant either for one-time egregious issues or ongoing patterns of compliance or safety concerns.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in reviewing CSA violations and taking the appropriate actions including termination.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in investigating “How’s My Driving” calls and providing recommendations to Safety as applicable.
- Support safety reviews, videos and company safety campaigns. Advocate safe driving.
- Coordinate with Operations on all driver-related items.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing stop/holds/expirations, making decisions about whether a driver should be on a hold from driving or allowed to continue.
- Conflict resolution as necessary
- Ability to have sensitive conversations or interviews with drivers regarding a variety of subjects.
- Ability to make decisions autonomously after investigating and gathering data.
- Handle urgent situations in a professional manner.
- Multi-tasking as necessary.

- Keep superiors informed of project priorities and any issues that may require their attention.
- Work with other department leaders as necessary to establish more effective and efficient processes and communication practices.

Knowledge, skills, experience & education:
- Direct Management with day-to-day operations experience preferred.

- Transportation industry experience preferred.
- College degree is preferred.
