Infectious Disease Specialist for International Humanitarian Missions

OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
Provide medical care to patients and beneficiaries in outpatient and/or inpatient settings, following updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values, and universal hygiene standards, in order to improve their health conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply medical knowledge and skills in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients through outpatient and inpatient consultations, ensuring adherence to MSF medical protocols.
- Provide clear information to patients and families about diagnoses and treatment plans, verifying their understanding.
- Monitor and follow up on hospitalized patients through daily visits and examinations, prescribing appropriate treatments, and coordinating discharges or transfers with other doctors.
- Ensure proper use and sterilization of medical equipment, compliance with hygiene standards, and rational distribution of medicines.
- Contribute to the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, reporting complications, medical errors, or operational issues to the line manager.
- Ensure the quality of care through training and supervision of the multidisciplinary medical team, including shift management and on-call participation when needed.
- Manage complex cases such as advanced HIV and opportunistic infections including disseminated tuberculosis according to MSF, Indian/WHO guidelines.
- Oversee the management of severe acute malnutrition, comorbidities, and drug-related adverse events.
- Monitor antibiotic prescriptions, ensuring rational use and supporting the development of protocols for infectious disease management.
- Build capacity of ward team, through bedside training to MSF Medical Doctors and Nurses, in the management of infectious diseases in advanced HIV
Note: Due to local legal restrictions, International doctors cannot do direct clinical work. They can however examine patients with consent and advise local resident doctors on treatment and management plan. They may only supervise procedures.
PROFILE
Education and formation
- Essential: General Physician Degree.
- Essential: Diploma or equivalent experience in Infectious diseases
- Desirable diploma in tropical medicine
- Desirable Internal Medicine Specialization
Experience
- Essential: minimum 2 years practicing as General Physician for a hospital developing multi-purpose activities
- Essential: 2 years of treating patients with infectious disease in an inpatient facility including HIV, TB and/or DRTB
- Essential: Experience in tropical medicine, post-registration experience in public health, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, “A”, infectious diseases, HIV / AIDS / STD, TB, general medicine and / or minor surgery.
- Desirable: Experience in management of advanced HIV, DRTB, Visceral Leishmaniasis, intensive care, conduct of tissue aspirates techniques for diagnosis, and interpretation of radiography (X-ray, CT scan and MRI)
- Desirable work experience with MSF and other NGOs in developing countries
Languages
- Essential: English (B2 or higher level)
- Essential: Spanish (C1 or higher level)
- Knowledge of French will be an asset

POSITION CONDITIONS
Work Venue: Where the needs of the project require it
Profits: Monthly remuneration: in the first 12 months, the bonus approximate gross monthly is USD $1,500. From the second year remuneration increases based on experience (previous and acquired) and the level of responsibility in the field. Private insurance coverage that includes medical coverage and hospital, temporary disability and life insurance. The organization also has an arranged medical evacuation if necessary. The expenses of stay in the land are covered: housing, basic services, cleaning and washing. Other expenses such as transportation, visas, transfer to the country of destination and Displacements in the field will also be covered by MSF. Per diem or monthly per diem: mainly to cover meals and small personal expenses.

The vacancy remains open all year round due to the needs within the Humanitarian Missions. The selection process may take 3 to 6 months after my application, once accepted, you will be part of the MSF International Pool, and the mission assignment may take 3 to 6 months after validation.
